Alien TV series (Alien Earth) : 2025

It doesn’t apply to any specific line of questioning / criticism in this thread but the above reference to Star Wars has reminded me of this low rumbling annoyance I have with social media commentary re: films / TV.

The criticism I get annoyed at is: ‘the way this happened didn’t make sense in the context of ‘lore / universe’. It’s often used as if it’s some sort insightful observation that justifies an emotional response, whereas it often looks to me as if it’s backwards reasoning; someone isn’t enjoying something so they pick on this weird little thing, whilst ignoring absolutely glaring flaws in other films etc.

Case in point: Star Wars, Empire Strike Back. Everybody loves this film but if you think about it, the part on the Asteroid makes absolutely no sense - the vacuum of space suddenly ceases to exist and they all go off for a jolly without depressurising the ship.

I can choose to let that ruin the film for me, or I can choose to suspend my disbelief and conjure up reasons that enable what I see on screen. I tend to choose the outcome that has the positive result; there was probably some force field around the ship, or the worm created its own atmosphere. Whatever. Or, I accept that it doesn’t make much sense and enjoy it for what it is supposed to be - fun.

I do tend to watch films / TV ‘emotionally’ though so I can appreciate others that fixate on how things are delivered can view things another way - we’re all different. I remember enjoying Rise of Skywalker in the cinema but have had to concede that in the cold light of day and fair criticisms, that was a pile of doo doo.

Uh, late night ramblings from me… maybe the point I’m going for is… relaxed viewing is more enjoyable than defensive viewing.

At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, that’s because Alien was made in 1979 and Prometheus was made in 2012. Both show the contemporaneous ideas of “high tech”. In another 20 years Prometheus might well look like Alien looks now.
The story line was darker I thought.

If only watched first episode the premise of the corporations I liked and where that could go.

The alien at times look good but them some shots it looked awful.

I will carry on but am skeptical after being so excited for it

I never did it but I remember walking past the Trocadero one time we visited London and saw a bewildered group of people leaving a side door onto the street as teh Aliens experience ended. I remember they looked proper flustered. It was only years later that I actually learnt what they'd been doing when I found out about it. Shame I was too young it sounded like a blast.
I really want secret cinema to do an Aliens show. The star wars and 28 days later ones looked excellent.

But the Alien universe It doesn't make sense anyway when the Nostromo has 70's style tech and Weylands Prometheus ship has super sci-fi technology.

I thought Prometheus was supposed to be a reboot anyway rather than strictly occurring in the same timeline.

It was a better episode, but it's just not right. And then the end scene was just complete tosh.

I mean come on, she pets a chest burster.
Maybe she can teach it tricks for treats, take it for a walk.
And where's the security? Its meant to be one of the top 5 corporations that rule the universe, but a few people wander in & out

I've no particular issue with that aspect. After all, it's not like she knows the same backstory as you.
Daft, yes but not immersion breaking for me.
Now, Wendy's haircut, that's an entirely different matter. Just can't comprehend that style choice. And the fact that Hermit always looks like he's about to cry.

Really enjoyed the latest episode

Same.

I particularly like the introduction of the ‘powerful intimidating child’ aspect - reminds me of that twilight zone episode where everyone is **** scared of the kid with the powers.

I suspect that character isn’t long for ‘this world’ though.

I also finally twigged that ‘boy genius’ is a bit of a Peter Pan in many ways (cocky, proud of his youth, self-centred etc.)… I’m a bit slow off the mark on that one :o

Her hairstyle almost reminds me of Wynona Ryders androids haircut in Alien 4

This for me was one of the more scary parts.
We all know what the Aliens are capable of.

It's a little mediocre at the moment, though I'm still watching it, hoping it will pick up pace.

Still very much enjoying it and we finally get to see T Oceleus doing it's thang :D

Wonder when we'll get to see the other 2 beasties tho.
There's supposed to be 5 Alien specimens... right?
