Spec me a rice cooker

Wash rice 3 times, just under 1:1 ratio of water and rice. With water being less than rice. Oh and buy a Taitung rice cooker looks basic and not very flashy but produces better results overall.

Thanks. I was hoping the answer wasn’t going to be, “buy another rice cooker”. ;)
My answer was tongue in cheek. The other part of my answer is valid though just less than a 1:1 to ratio with the water being the lesser.

Wash the rice 3 times only 3 times and we’ve had great results with Tesco sushi rice.

A lot is personal preference, I take guidance from my partner she had grew up with rice in Taiwan.

I've also found with my Panda rice cooker that you need to leave the (basmati in my case) rice for 10 minutes or so after cooking to rest otherwise the rice ends up coming out too soggy.

YMMV

Picked this up the other day. Think I've got the rice to water ratio down, long grain white rice is 1:1.75-2

I like that rice cooker and it works pretty well for what a super cheap £30-40 Russell Hobbs job. The problem is that I've had 3 of them break and none have lasted longer than 12 months. I only use the cooker once a week typically so I've had to give up on it and try a different brand unfortunately.

I bought a Yum Asia Panda a while ago based upon the positive reviews here. I’ve not had a great deal of luck, so I thought I’d relate my experience in the hope that someone can tell me where I’m going wrong!

Ive tried a few different rices, basmati and jasmine. I’m measuring a portion of rice using the included 180ml plastic pot then washing it extensively before adding it to the cooker. I’m then adding water until it reaches long grain line 1 and starting the cooker on the long grain mode.

Once it’s finished (about 40 minutes later), I get rice that’s cooked but a bit goopy, hardly the light and fluffy perfection I’d hoped for.

Any thoughts welcome.
Both those types take a bit less water than short grain rice I find, I usually do a smidge under the line for basmati for mine which is perfect for short grain.

I've never failed with 1:1 rice to water, often slightly less water, fluff it once done and shut the lid and leave for another 30+mins.

I tried 1:1 and the results were… better, but not perfect. If anything, the rice was a bit dry, so I guess I need a dribble more water than 1:1.

1:1 here, never any problems, and I've used that same Tilda rice.

Wash the rice 3 times only 3 times
What's your definition of a wash? I generally run it under the cold tap, giving it a good old swoosh for a couple of minutes.

I stopped washing mine recently doesn't seem to make much if any difference.
