What film did you watch last night?

One Battle After Another (2025) - 8/10

A revolutionary’s tale of fighting the good fight whilst dealing with relationships, children, getting old, and the constant threat of being caught.

It was refreshing to see the illegal immigration elements from the railroad side with the police as the villains and the absurdities within the story and from the characters add in some oddball humour amongst the heavy drama.

The acting was great and whilst the almost constant background music did get a bit distracting, it mostly adds to every scene, making them more tense, exciting or interesting.

'One battle after another' - Excellent film. Leo smashes it as per usual. All the cast are great. A very well made film. It's just over 2.5 hours long but never boring - 8/10

The Way of the Gun (2000)

One of those films I haven't seen that crop up on hidden gem film lists, maybe?

There's a lot to like, the acting is decent, the premise has some originality, it's well shot and directed. Plus James Caan puts in a great turn and practically steals the film. At times it reminded me of a western in terms of the score and the way some shots and scenes played out. It is a bit shallow and there's very little character development, but overall I enjoyed it.

7/10

Watched the new Superman movie on Sky last night with the kids. It was corny as hell and not a touch on the Cavil superman movies, but it was good enough as a TV rental. Glad I didn't pay for the cinema for it though. Looking at the new FF4 movie for next Friday - any opinions?
Fantastic 4 is very enjoyable.

You can't compare the new Superman to Cavill/Snyder films. Its more like the Reeve movies and the old 90s cartoon and the comics in terms of it's tone and feel.

Nobody 2.

Erm. The first one was a funny chuck away film this one was just the same even more violent....
Feels like John Wick temu edition but still dumb ridiculous enough to enjoy. :p

A couple of films this week:

Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning - Not massively exciting but not awful either - 6/10
Fantastic Four: First Steps - I was a bit disappointed given some of the reviews here but again it wasn't awful - 6/10 as well

Given that the revolutionaries were not a million miles from being domestic terrorists, I think it’s fair to say that the good guys were bad and the bad guys were worse.

Good film, though. Leo and Sean Penn were both great. Amazing score from Johnny Greenwood, though I agree there was a lot of it.

Paddington in Peru 5/10 a big drop in subtlety, story , direction and humour from the first two. Lightweight entertainment to pass an evening.

Weapons

I quite enjoyed it. I'm sure there's meaning in some of the imagery used but I'm a simpleton who doesn't understand.

7/10
