Arc Raiders

I must be the only one who finds in incredibly overrated.
I also find it overrated and flat, but I can also understand why others might like it.

I believe that epic moments can be had in this game, given its nature, which is why I'll probably end up buying it :)

I think for 30 quid it's a decent buy?
I only played the server slam which was limited in what you could do but from what I have read there is loads of content, 12 maps for a kickoff and a 10 year road map from the developers, it felt like a triple A release to me so based on this it seems like a steal but only time will tell!

Considering it's from the ex-Dice devs that have created an FPS gem in The Finals I've got a lot of trust in them to make it work.

The Finals is on season 8 right now and the roadmap on that game continues to go on and on.

Makes sense though as by your own admission you dont like pvp extraction games so its entirely understandable. I dont like things like Love Island so I'm obviously not going to like a new show called Teen Beach Romance :D

Your bang on but i want to like it so much , i admit to having some FOMO and the off chance ill really enjoy it.
Its a weird one for me :P

Yeah funnily enough I get that for BF6 (been enjoying the BF games for decades , ever since BF1942), I really want to like BF6 and have a little FOMO, but I just didnt enjoy it when I played it.

That'll completely depend on the playerbase sticking around quite frankly. They have a "store" despite it being a paid game, which means that plan to continue support is going to occur only if that remains profitable. The problem with that is you require a player base for that, and they wont stick around if they don't balance the game, especially the matchmaking. The game is neat and has good highs, but the lows are pretty bad, a complete waste of 20-30 minutes at worst.

I hope it just lasts long enough for them to eventually add some kind of PvE focused mode in it and remove the PvP for those that don't want to. Dark and Darker did this and has the same meta game mechanics, so I expect if they want their game to live more than 1 year, we'll see this.

No reason why it cant last that long, Hunt Showdown has been going for 7 years (and is a paid game and has a store) and Tarkov has been going for 8 years, both of which are pvpve extraction games. Arc Raiders is imo better than both of those, and imo actually has better balance than both of those, so if they can last 8 years (so far) theres no reason Arc Raiders cant go 10. As I've said before, I will happily take on a £100 bet with anyone on the forum that Arc Raiders wont be dead in a year (based on the performance so far of Hunt and Tarkov), but as yet nobody has been willing to take up that bet. I honestly think the non-pvpers underestimate how popular the pvp is in the pvpve genre within the pvp userbase, as much as not everyone wants just pvp, its also the case that not everyone wants just pve either. The devs did say the other day that they will ensure that solo players are only up against other solo players, so thats one tweak from the server slam (although I personally never encountered a group while soloing) , however even then sometimes a person will still be playing for 30mins and then get beaten by a better player or an unfortunate piece of timing (like they were already low on health) and die, theres nothing that can be done in regard of that, thats just the nature of pvp.

As I said, it remains to be seen. I remain skeptical but hopeful. It's not that it can't last, it's just that I doubt it will. It has a lot of casual appeal but under the hood has hardcore and toxic PvP elements. If those toxic elements aren't kept in check then all of the PvE people will leave, as will most console users and most casuals like myself.

Random bad luck, low HP encounters you can't account for so much, but you can control things like positive and negative feedback loops for good and bad players respectively. They are not kept in check at all, the game straight up has gear and skill benefits that don't have trade offs, the players that have them are just at an objective advantage, so do lift/corner campers and snipers. You have kettle users being beamed by burst shot assault rifles from across the map. I will play it as long as it remains fun and we'll see how it goes. Technically in the sound, graphics and performance categories this is a 9/10 easy, they've done an incredible job, it's the first great sounding game since BFBC2 (something I played to death), but that won't carry the game if the gameplay is mid.

But I still dont get it, you doubt it will based upon what? As I say, Tarkov and Hunt Showdown have both been going for 7 years and in both of those you have imbalance and extraction point campers, so there is literally a precedence set that shows that despite those things a pvpve game is able to last many years, given that evidence why do you think that those games survive but Arc wont?

I would agree with you if Tarkov and Hunt had both been failures and closed down, as there would then be proof that imbalance and campers kills off a pvpve game but with both of them still running several years later , the evidence is to the contrary. All Arc really needs to do is do better than both of those and it ends up as the top pvpve game on the market, its very much attainable. They arent trying to post CoD/Counterstrike/BF sorts of numbers, they dont need as massive a userbase to be a success, they simply need to equal or outdo the current top dogs in the pvpve genre and given that any flaws that Arc has are also the same flaws that Hunt and Tarkov has, I cant see any reason why they wont do , at least, as well as those two titles.

I'm preloaded and ready to rock , who else has been looking forward to this?
Been looking forward to it ever since I first played the beta early this year, one of the few games this year that I have genuinely had withdrawals from when not able to play :D

What a year....everything that has come before this already, then this, and still Tavern Keeper, Europa Universalis and Anno 117 (amongst others) yet to come. Been a good year for gaming imo :)
