RC cars

little tip on the shell when using a reamer the shell is marked at the front but the post is at a angle, ream it a bit further up than the marking on the shell, im gonna paint a bit of spare shell material then glue it over the giant bit of the hole from the inside, then it should look decent instead of a massive hole behind my body post lol

the drive pins are mental took a while to get them in, their not the usual solid pins but like a bit of solid steel wrapped over to make a pin with a slit all the way down basically like a tube with a slit all the way down one bit, i used a very cheap multi tool set with the smallest size torx screw it had in it just to fit in one end and wiggle it in with loads of grease then i went hammer time with a large spanner and then once half in i used my biggest pliers which done the job lol just wow i have never encountered pins like that on any other rc car i have.

the dreaded shocks next, i can see by building it how far stuff has moved on for ease of access to parts etc, enjoying it though and itching to drive it, need to trim the shell a bit more at the back for the suspension tower so it sits down on the body post :)

dang the price has jacked up again got my one one for about 320 now its up to 370 for the same edition :(

I've stalled on a rebuild of my old 90s RC10GT as electric. Just petered out. I need to get back on that. THis looks ace!
hehe cheers :) got any pics of your old rc10gt?

i googled it and looks a kool truck and im a fan of nitro to electric conversions after doing my hyper 7 black, thinking of converting the nitro hyper tt mini, all i need to get now is a kyosho tracker and i will have all my memorable proper rc cars :)

my biggest regret was chucking out a gold tub rc10 when we first got a nitro...... and still had the tracker, corrected that error who could have known at the time that 20 odd years later they would bring em back out and spares would flow again :)

sold my tracker to buy gran turismo 3 lol

Looks like a lovely build!

Those pins are called roll pins and they are made of spring steel, you need to pinch them with decent pliers to compress them and slide them in the hole, then when you release the pliers they will expand again to be a snug fit.

Before doing the shocks, buy some Associated Green Slime (or similar) if you don't already have some, if you put this on all the seals the shocks last a lot longer between rebuilds

ahh awesome, cheers m8 :)

more or less finished now just some niggles to sort, i might of used the wrong bearings somewhere as the 4 i tried to use for the front wheels had holes to big for the axles.

think ill put 1 or 2 wee nuts and bolts on each side of the spoiler to make sure they dont fall off when im driving it, its just double sided tape holding the side bits on at moment :)

wow the price on this is like a yoyo its 299.99 on model sport now.

edit : also got a longer hex screw for the front body post and used a bushing to raise it up a bit more, i wasnt happy with the stock way which required a lot of pressure to get the shell low enough for the body pin to go through the hole at the front, i know from experience that just knackers the shell, had to use some washers on one of the front wheels as i overscrewed some of the bolts while watching dinosaur fight club lol :)

first test run a success, had to use some cable ties on the bellcrank servo saver thingy though, other than that it put power down nice and evenly from the motor so i was worrying over nothing about one of the idler gears been tighter than the other.

the shocks still hold up by todays standards for bashing about the street and are better than i remember, probably because theres oil in them i have no idea if my original had any oil left lol

even though it was cold when i had it out the brushed 21 turn motor stayed luke warm at best and accelerated very rapidly, so room for gearing up quite a bit i reckon, also found a 48 dp pinion about 7-9 teeth higher in my spares box so will proabably try that on it :)

edit: oh god had some trouble with that zeee battery thats in one of the other pics, was trying to fully charge it for the test run and the charger kept freaking out with either wrong inputs or connection errors, tried both ports on the charger (different leads) and eventually got it up to 8.20 volts then it messed up again and i noticed there was a slight expansion on the casing and the last time it messed up my charger said cell error.

yeh that battery is sitting in the garden under a barbecue lid, tomorrow i will hook up a motor to it and drain it then once drained cut the connectors off and cross them before disposing of it.

first battery from that brand that has giving us any trouble we have loads of them between us and used one of them for the test run :)

sky rc d100 v2 got 2 of they chargers was one of them i was using :)

made a start on the tamiya mini cooper, looks so cute and small :D

the chassis is half built and heres my attempt at a paint job lol

some rc 10 after running and lights :)

rc10 steering bell, cheapo amazon one for a tenner which required me to drill the holes straight......

i can confirm the rc bearings kit for the jay edition does not fit either the front wheels or the axle one or the other i bought a second set.

got bearings coming which im hoping fit the front wheels and the axles and some imperial tools which might come tommorrow just for that car and i increased its pinion gear size, might remove the pink hobby wing sticker for a black one :)

so glad i bolted and nutted the sides of the spoiler on :)

Can anyone spec me a fun, plug and play beginner friendly car/bundle for around £100ish tops, does such a thing exist?

Fancy trying one out and might slap it on the Xmas list from the Mrs :D keeps saying my ideas are boring ;)

FTX Tracer? They do a truggy version or a monster truck version and it's cheap.

If you could stretch your budget by £30 you could look at the Arrma Grom range, or the 1/10th scale FTX options like the FTX Vantage or Bugsta

can confirm these bearings fit the jay halsey edition rc10 front wheels and axles perfect :)

ordered a rebuildable motor for it as well, should give it a bit more poke and i have spare brushes kicking around, just hoping it doesnt get as hot as my old purple tiger rebuildables which got super hot on a dt-02 chassis and a tt-01 lol

this is the tame motor i have in it https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/absima-electric-motor-thrust-eco-21t-380786

took that out the grass hopper 2 and switched a 380 stock motor in to the hoppy 2 for my neice and nephew to have a go :)

also got some imperial hex drivers just for that car https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/409100

also bought 2 spare spur gears just incase, unfortunatley the supplied one from the kit is discontinued but the ae site had a big button saying direct replacment gears but their in black instead of the awesome colour and a lot more bearing holes in them so im assuming thats for multiple kits.

Apologies for late reply. Yeah, me too. Annoying as I'd put some effort into the build - Avid bearings and Ti screws etc.

I'm halfway through an XB4 26 build. Last XB4 I bought was a 17 and still have it. Hopefully have it ready to go by this Sunday
Very tempted by the new XB4, though I just sold my 2020 version after getting a CAT PB so I can't really justify it at the moment.

I run Xray in 2WD though - and things that match are always nice....

In other news - Schumacher are releasing that CAT 2000 in January, so I might finally retire the Optima Mid!
