**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

.

Only thing that annoys me about the default Android launchers on a lot of these devices is that you can't hide any apps. There are a lot of apps that I'll never use, like SIM Tools, that I can't delete, nor disable, or even just hide.

Have a look at Canta and Shizuku. There should be guides on YouTube. I used it to debloat my Xiaomi 15 Ultra when I had it and it may also work for Honor.

Canta (with Shizuku): This is currently the most popular "no-root" mobile app. It uses Shizuku to gain system-level permissions via Wireless Debugging, allowing you to uninstall bloatware directly from your phone.

I've just looked into this and Shizuku is not installable on my phone because it was designed for a previous version of Android :(

Edit. Looks like a forked version is available

from a PC with adb installed then I think?

I've managed to get it to work but to be honest a lot of the apps are classed as system apps that I might run into problems. I just want to "hide" the icons from the app drawer rather than delete them and run into problems.

The app drawer is very, very limited you can't really do anything with it.

On a side note the battery indeed does seem good, I seem to get through a day, 6AM until 10PM and have 50% battery lift with 3-4hr SoT.

Yeah it is frustrating if I were to install a launcher like Nova I can customise the app drawer, have multiple pages and hide apps. Don't understand why I can't with a stock launcher.

Phone is great though, the face unlock is amazingly fast.

My Poco F8 Ultra arrived yesterday. Amazing phone (spec) for just £479 (small discount and trade in). Why would anyone drop £1k on a Samsung or equivalent. Crazy.

Making me jelly. Should've got the ultra
Lol. :)

Does yours do the same with those super wallpapers? I'm mesmerised by it all. So the lock screen is like an earth, that zooms in closer when unlocked, then when the lock screen disappears, takes you to a location on earth and that wallpaper moves! Or, the always on display which is the earth and sun that changes along with the time of day. Hah very impressive stuff.

Phone has been on the go since 1pm yesterday afternoon. I'm at 36% remaining battery. That'll last easily until tomorrow. Impressed.

No mine doesn't, I think i have disabled/deleted most things it looks mostly stock android haha

It's looking like another Chinese phone for me.

Like many others I'm sure, the most important aspects for me is the battery followed by the screen size.
In order to achieve that on the iPhone 17, Samsung S26 and Google Pixel 10 series, I'm looking at flagship money.

On the other hand, for a much lower price you can tick most, if not all, the boxes with some of the Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco models.
Shame about the Chinese phone colours in general, though. :/ :D

The Redmi Turbo 5 Max has a 9000mAh battery, though I believe you can only get that imported. Not sure.

@tamzzy could you do me a test please on your F8 Pro? I've noticed MS Edge just kills the battery. 15 mins browsing this morning took 5% of my battery. Seems a bit OTT. I'd be interested in what you see and also what browser you use as your daily? Ta :)

@Firegod using chrome. Battery life seems to be dependent on connection. WiFi less taxing on battery than 5G. If just simple browsing on WiFi then seems to be 1% per 8-10 mins or thereabouts?

Thanks. I've reenabled chrome and I've installed duckduckgo browser. Will try both and see how they compare.

Geekerwan has been blocked/censored in China on orders of the government after he posted a video showing that Chinese phone makers cheat in benchmarks. He shows how Chinese phones run 10% faster and use 20% less power in reviews compared to real life performance for owners

Here is a video backup due to other videos getting taken down by ccp
