Anyone else getting subscription burnout?

I have considered YouTube Premium, though when I went to sign up I could only find the full version with the music etc. I thought they offered a cheaper version which just removed the ads, but it said that wasn't available in my region, so gave up at that point.
It is available in the UK now. I already use an adblocker but I wanted to support the channels/creators I watch. If you're still interested try https://youtube.com/premiumlite

That just takes me to a page saying that I am not illegible for premium lite and it is in the process of rolling out in my country (not using a VPN etc.)

Actually, that's only in Edge, it works OK in Firefox, odd...

I don't understand . The op asks: >Again, I understand why, but I wonder what the limit is for most?

The limit for me is zero. I have no subscriptions. Unless you count private eye. I immediately discount/ignore anything that requires a subscription.

There is nothing out there that would make me pay or consider paying every month for. Just giving money away.

Surely there are more of us who can manage not to sign up for everything in sight and then wonder why it costs a fortune ?

I cut back massively, the only service/TV subscription I have is Amazon, which to be honest I really need to try and be less reliant on, but the convenience is too good.

If im sat in work and remember i need something (picture hooks for example) i can order there and then and i dont have to battle my way through traffic going into the nearest retail park. I think it also helps not to overspend.

I cancelled Sky,Netflix & spotify a while back and I dont think ill be going back any time soon.

I cancelled Prime, after about 10+ years. Don't need it. It gives me nothing. Only thing that's actually changed is i get a trillion banners and subversive links on amazon now 'encouraging' me to sign up for prime. I have found my self using ebay more for the sort of things I might have gotten on amazon before. Not to mention general amazon ****************. Can you even find the product you want anymore for the 10,000 chinese copy versions being sold for 10x what you can get on ali express ?

you don't need to pay Bezos every month to order picture hooks from the internet.

I apologise if this is mentioned previously but whatever business model Amazon Prime Video is operating under is getting way out of hand.

I think when I originally subscribed you could watch output already included in you subscription or you could pay to buy or rent a film.

Nowadays there are countless other channels presented to you when you search for a particular film and the thing they probably hope you do is take up the offer of the free trial and then forget to cancel and they proceed to bill you monthly until you notice and cancel.

Now, I'm totally averse to subscriptions and normally there is an option to rent or buy the film in addition to the trial period but it seems that this can also trigger thie initiation of a trial period. I recently checked my Amazon account and I had 6 active subscriptions for which I'm getting billed but I've never knowingly subscribed to any of them - I've only ever paid to rent a film and I know I'm not that fat fingered so definitely something untoward going on here.
On the prime video home page, there are three buttons at the top (Prime/Subscription/Store) which filter the content for you.
Although some of the things available to buy/rent are also available under a subscription, so take care with what option you select.

Argos is good for most stuff, if you have a Sainsbury's Local nearby having delivered there for pickup is v convenient. Prices are generally good and there's less pages of identical cheap tat to wade through.

No, you're right, I dont.

its something I really need to reconsider.

prime is the only sub i pay - mainly because i live in NI and as most GB based companies seem to think it's not possible to ship to NI it's usually just easier to order from my auld mucker jeff. kids use prime video a lot so it has some 'value' to us but every other sub has been binned of and replaced, where needed, with jolly roger content. that said, i'm giving serious consideration to binning prime off too since they introduced adverts into the content i am already paying them to watch.

I just realised I’m making very little use of my Apple one subscription, not played any music in over a month and watched very little on Apple TV.

Apple TV does have some good shows, but it’s easier to sub for a month and binge the stuff I enjoy later in the year.

So that’s that cancelled, just keeping the iCloud storage.

With Amazon Prime I pay for annually and HBO max I currently sub to got plenty to watch.

I was thinking about this a few days ago and I agree. I need to do a subscription detox.
Off the top of my head:

Apple One
YouTube Premium Family
Netflix
Disney Plus
Amazon Prime
Microsoft 365
Autodesk Fusion
Bitwarden Premium
Aida64
InFuse

Pretty much the same here. A few differences. Some of them I could cancel but I find them useful.

I, like others, have quite a few. I'd really like to drop one drive as the price increase for AI is just not on and it's not a service i'd ever want to use. But my email is now 20+ years old now and frankly too important to me to change. I tried to de-google myself years ago and switch apps etc but it's looking like they are the ones to stick with.

I cut them all out over last year, however the wife keeps having a meltdown when she can't login to Netflix to scroll through the app to "find something to watch". That's what she misses the most. Not the content, the aimless scrolling of the library. I despair.
I literally had to remind her that she can also do that on Prime Video, but ah, the problem there is she finds stuff she wants to watch and then bam, rental price or unavailable.

Oh, and she signs up to Prime for £8.99 because she became so conditioned to that being the default place you buy things from on the internet.

I'm getting burnout from defending her from subscriptions FFS!

Doesn't help that all of the free trails have been used up now, so it feels to her as if I've taken it all away. I have self control so it makes me look like the bad guy. Still, nothing stopping her paying for it herself, but then the value suddenly drops for then surprisingly :D

This happened to me, I cancelled Netflix and absolutely refuse to pay for it again.

The situation became quite tense when the final season of stranger things dropped. I held my ground and refused.

I've been slowlly culling out subs over the last year. We're down to

iCloud+ Family (covers AppleTV and 2TB cloud storage)
Sky (with a £4 Netflix upgrade)
Plex Pass
Amazon Prime (for TV and my wife's consumerism)

We'll likely add a Disney+ upgrade to Sky once they bring in their free offering.
We had Sky Cinema for a while but we weren't actually getting enough value from it. I just miss the Paramount+ component.

With steady focus, I have only been reducing my subscriptions over time, but I think YouTube Premium Lite is going to reverse that trend because we watch so much on the telly where adblockers etc. aren't useful.

I work with subscriptions daily as SaaS, so yes, absolutely.. but homewise, it's tiring how everything wants a slice of the monthly pie these days.

Feels like back in the day, 'lifetime access' to things was way more common.
