why all the hate for hs2?

Exactly the type of stupidity we get in planning. Massive infrastructure project can't go live until a roof garden is in place. I apparently can't live in my new house until an electric car charger and bike shed are in place...

As a rail infrastructure geek-wannabe, I am frothing at this latest announcement. Imagine whizzing down the line at 340kph to London from Crewe. And now it’ll be stuck at half that or some other nonsense. Bfft.

Couldn't make this up, my childhood Horby set will be faster at this rate. Didn't they slow down local services for HS1 to make it seem faster?

Bamboozled how you design something to run faster than anything you have without having track to test it on, successful Tory governments have done such a poor job - not that this country has a great track record of big infrastructure projects.

And speaking of prices, I bought a train ticket from Leicester to London (return) for Thursday - £230!!! Prices on HS2 are going to be fleeced.com IMO.

Should just build a load of roads and car parks and business parks and towns. Prolly cheaper.
Of course it would be cheaper. Not only that it actually benefits more of the population. Let's not forget that HS2 really only benefits the wealthy and powerful to get "to and from" their latest purchase before they then asset strip it. They want to be in and out as fast as possible

It will end up getting upgraded again back to full speed at some point, after the line opens, at great expense and disruption, and these further compromises should not have been made. Same as the scrapped Phase 2 that still needs the capacity built and will still need to happen, until it perhaps gets turned into "HS3" or similar in order to give it a new budget.

and how much is the reactor over budget/delayed , or was elizabeth line .... prior art.;
got to wonder if the big AI data centres will have their electricity supplies in time, though (to the detriment of new housing)
