Stolen Lego, corrupt police and a youtuber.

Free to be corrupt.

Its America. They've been as brainwashed as Russians, Chinese etc when it comes to their own country. If you tell someone their country is home of the brave, land of the free enough, they internalise it and do all the mental gymnastics themselves to explain how they are "free" and all the corruption is just "free markets". They ain't free. They are bought and paid for.

Is it worth watching all these videos. Or just wait for the inevitable Netflix Doc.

Not really. Reckless bens videos are OK but he caters to the young youtube generation who just want constant action and performative crap and will believe anything they are told. I'm sure there are better people to watch to get a handle on it all. He was however the guy that brought this to everyones attention so he deserves a certain amount of respect for that.

I found it gripping and binged the lot.

The Mrs an I haven't watched a decent crime drama for a while so i'll set up for tonight then

I'll do some google'fu and see what i can find

It's a bit long at almost an hour, but this is a good summary of events or you could wait for the Netflix series .

The GoFundMe that was raised to reimburse the old bloke's $200,000 Lego collection is now standing at $385,000. However, considering the legal charges against Reckless Ben he might need some of that, his legal fees could be up over $1M. Mind you, he'll probably get back more than 10 times that from the police department from all the trumped up charges.
I'm sure he's made a fair amount from these YT vids.

penguinz0 has been covering it and his videos aren't too long

This has been a roller coaster of a ride. So the company has now split ways with the 2 owners of the store but try to cease and desist his account? Not sure I fully understand why? At times it sounds like they actually want to make right.

This is going to go deep. No way those lackys had the ability to make police raid a house swat style with guns.

I am more concerned with the police corruption more than anything else.

They were trying to put that kid behind bars so hard for doing nothing illegal. Imagine what they have done before to other innocent people.

But who was doing this? I thought this was the 2 owners of the store doing all this and having the influence on the police? Not B&M on a corporate level?

If you look at the body cam footage where one of the owners is speaking to the police he is speaking to someone higher up on his phone.

I know America is pretty crazy but having an armed swat team arresting teenagers on 2nd hand information that they are doing heroin and having stolen Lego is just plain weird.

I believe it was the CEO on the phone in the body cam footage, so pretty damn high up.

It's honestly disturbing, I totally echo what you said about the number of innocent people out there that must have been screwed over due to this sort of thing. It's amazing that a handful of young 20 somethings on youtube are managing to uncover serious corruption across the USA, just shows how many people have been turning a blind eye or benefiting from it in plain sight.

It was implied in some of the videos that it may be Mormon related. BAM being a big donator in Utah and possibly exerting undue influence on the local police as a result.

Not an expert on these matters though, and after 4 hours of YouTube videos yesterday I dunno if I want to go further down the rabbit hole!

It's a crazy ride, no matter how it ends.

Story time: I wanted a toy gun when I was like 5 and my parents refused to buy it for me. You know the kind that was around in the 90s. To be fair they're still around now. Anyway I picked stickle bricks instead which they were perfectly happy with. First thing I made when I got home was a shape of a gun and went round shouting BANG! BANG!

Kids.

It absolutely is because they are all Mormons. Its a cult. You only have to watch videos made by people who have left to see how much of a cult it is.

Came on my radar as i've been putting on lawyer streams as background noise in work, ironically i started with karen read thinking "yeah real trials aint gonna be all fire and brimstone like the movies" only for, well, iykyk

Hadnt seen reckless ben's videos until last night but prompted by this thread decided to have a gander. Not a fan of the very dramatised youtuber styling but my god the clips of bodycams etc are kinda insane. I do have a sneaking feeling that there might be a lot we're not hearing from bens side though.

Therein lies the problem. It always amuses me the way that people (not just on this forum) will happily support one side in an argument based on a very one-sided version of events. Mostly it's just Confirmation Bias at work, as it clearly is here. My personal view has always been: what's the bit you aren't telling me? Because even if it's the truth and nothing but the truth, I guarantee it's not the whole truth. Everyone does this: "tidy up" the story. Leave out the bits that complicate it. Simplify it. Etc. And vital evidence gets left out.
