I've heard one of the main people at the Pi Foundation quoted to say that they can still make certain Pi models for cheap because it uses older RAM and they have a stockpile of it.

Another quick question, this time related to my own set up :)

I'm looking at replacing my current router/firewall and Cloudkey+ with a Cloud Gateway.

To minimise disruption while I get the new gateway box all configured, I presume there's no reason I couldn't just hang it off my LAN, so the 'WAN' side of the gateway is actually inside my network and I'm double-NAT-ing then, when I'm happy to make the switch, just replace the existing router?

I pretty much did this when moving from TPLink to Ubiquiti with a UCG-F..

I set up all the VLANs and WiFi networks as best I could and found it mostly worked, I don't recall any show stoppers..
 
Morning all, what’s the Go-to outdoor AP I’ve go plenty of POE power but my garden lacks signal and now I’ve in the Unifi eco system for years I’m looking for a solid reasonable out door one!

One thing with those FlexHD / U7-Mesh APs is that if they are in places where little hands can touch them, they get very hot. I've learnt that from when the mini people come and visit with my sister.

Granted, not valid in this case, but it's worth taking into account with those.

That’s a good shout, I have 4 children but I’ll be placing it 10-12 feet high
 
Smoke alarm looks good, replace my Nest Protects that they abandoned. Bit annoying that it isn't either POE or mains.

I suspect they don't meet BS EN 14604 and therefore may invalidate your home insurance

(They won't meet this as they don't independently sound when detecting smoke - they relay a signal back, and then a AI speaker is used for the alarm)

Says nothing about that for me, just that if you declared you have them they should be working and suggests they be linked and tested every month and replaced in line with the manufacturers guidelines.
Actually goes on to suggest smart systems are even better at alerting you even when away from home and being able to turn lights on.

The not directly sounding doesn't sound great though. Sounds like a way to force you to buy extra devices.

Literally just read my policy guide section on smoke and CO alarms.
If you don't declare them (checked it added £16 to my policy) you don't even need to have them.

I'm not talking about whether your insurance is valid. It turns out they are EN 14604 certified but I still wouldn't install battery-only smoke alarms in 2026.
