I remember buying a Dreamcast just for this game and then a week later I saw an episode of Bits on channel 4 where they were lowering it into a grave as it had failed as a console . No regrets though, its still one of my best gaming memories, playing it in my christmas holiday while snow was falling outside. I really wish the original was available on Steam.

Same here. My brother got it on release and I remember loving the console. RE CV, Shenmue, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, Crazy Taxi etc. Was a load of cool games on it. Shame the console didn't sell enough and Sega left console business :(

I ended up getting one later when prices dropped :D

I just had another random memory. I don't know if anyone else had a dodgy Cable & Wireless box back in the day.... but there was this strange channel on mine which I'm sure was Italian. And it didn't have any actual programming on there, it just seemed to be a random assortment of adverts and trailers - mostly video game related.

One day I saw the most awesome video game trailer I'd ever seen which culminated in the female character being held at gunpoint, she drops her gun as requested and then dives onto the ground, catches the gun and shoots some gas canisters. This is how I explained it at school the following day. One lad had a Dreamcast and was like "I'm sure you're describing the intro to Code Veronica", lol. As a huge Resident Evil fan I was ashamed to admit that I never even knew Code Veronica existed.

I then went on a quest to find someone to lend me a copy which was ultimately successful. I played it, loved it. Good times.

Seems like a lifetime ago. It's pretty awesome that Capcom are remaking all of these though, and mostly doing an incredible job. I feel like they'll have a much harder time of remaking 5 and 6 though

For sure!

It's great to see them investing so much into Resident Evil (with two dedicated dev teams) and how frequently we've been getting new releases as a result... what a time to be alive! #REON.

I would say it was more exciting when there were actually new and fresh games.
I am not against rereleasing enhanced versions of old games but imo it shows how out of ideas the industry is when people are more interested in these games than actual new IP.

I think it is due to demand. I always wanted remakes and will do again in 20 years time. If they have an extra team doing it, I don't see the issue. Mainline games seem to come out every 4 years or so which these days is normal anyway.

RE9 was a more exciting release for me than I think any remake will be/has been, and I think that might have been the case for most folk. I think brand new games are going to take longer whether the remakes exist or not however - largely because exploring new ideas is more challenging and a risk.

The remakes largely feel like new games to me (at least 2R and 3R), and the originals are so old now that many people haven't played them anyway.

Capcom have been trying brand new IP with the likes of Pragmata and Kunitsu-Gami, both excellent imo, the RE franchise is just really strong though and consumers want more (as above, the demand is high for them).

Not sure if this was mentioned, but Capcom have confirmed the game is played in third person.

It may be that the opening bit we see in France is a bit like the opening bit of Resident Evil 3 (2020), where Jill was third person in her apartment.

yea i heard that, and i believe its the same team that done re 2 and 4 remakes which is a good sign, as those were meaty enough releases, ive heard code veronica is a pretty big game, so i hope it get's the proper justice, i also think claire had her audio cut out in that apartment sequence, leaving her voice actress currently unknown, although it would make sense to bring back stephanie panisello

Hopefully we get a remake of star citizen in 29 years time that actually works

Can't believe you guys have not played it. I played on release a few times and quite a few times since over the years One of ny favourite RE games.

I will stand by the argument to this day that Code Veronica was initially supposed to be RE4, it's a vastly more coherent continuation of everything prior.

Some bigwig decided the actual spin off (the RE4 we got) was the better route to take, and bugger him a thousand times because it's the avenue that led into the "meh" RE5 and utterly abysmal RE6.

But....many people would say RE4 is their favourite.

I've no doubt, but for many it was either their first entry into the series or they weren't big survival horror fans and it being so action/adventure orientated it connected more.

RE4 is closer to a Zelda game than it is anything that came before it in the franchise.

RE4 helped bring more players to the series I guess, and I think RE5 & 6 were just a... necessary evil; they followed big trends at the time and sold very well as a result. They perhaps helped the series get to being as strong as it is today too, all things considered.

As of April this year, RE5 was still the best selling game in the series, followed closely by RE2 Remake, RE6, RE7, and OG RE4.

More on topic, I wonder if the rumour about being able to ride Claire's motorcycle around between locations in the remake will come true :)

would be unreal, slow mo max payne moments taking both hands of the motorcycle and riddling mass zombie hordes with dual uzis :D and having gas and freeze rounds for the grenade launcher, freezing a zombies leg for example then shooting it and having it crawl towards you, would put production price up, but would be a nice addition

RE4 was the start of the action that was taking away the horror least it didnt go too far with it though but it certainly gave them bad ideas for 5 and 6 was a disaster. 2 is my fave of the original era of RE so to speak. I do like 4 but its not the best for me as it is for many many others.

Very interested in how they handle certain aspects of Veronica particular the themes of some of the characters, especially for the easily offended folk..

I am guessing they won't say you cross dressing freak in this one.

I wonder if there will be any of that at all in this.

I mean it’s what was in the game at the time for me leave it, then again I don’t get offended by sun light or some one saying a word but hey ho.

If they try to alter it that willl likely still offending some one anyway so there probably not gonna win either way
