Online dating, decent sites

@Retro6 You need a game plan to avoid being friend zoned, weed out the crazies and have fun with the good ones.

Don't just keep doing the same things and expect different results.
It can be difficult, I'm gonna get on more apps so that I can line up a few dates for a week, 5 would be ideal... you never know, it can be different results... sometimes I go months without any and then other times I can end up with 5 dates for the week bearing in mind that many don't go beyond the first date so its all a bit hit and miss until I eventually get success. Its just one of those things I got to keep trying. The problem I had on this round was only 2, first one I wasn't keen on but the second I really liked but I got friend zoned so the only game plan for being friend zoned is multiple dates.

So you're planning to simply carry on doing what you're doing and expect it to somehow work out.

This won't work. Like I said earlier you need a plan and stick to it. Here is what I developed when I was single, with good success.

You are getting dates, so you have probably created a good profile.

Do a few message exchanges to introduce yourself, find out a little about her (emphasis on just a little), set up a date and leave it. On the day text them to let them know you are excited about meeting them and confirm the time, and no more messaging. You're looking for romance, not a pen pal.

Date 1: Midweek date after work or at lunchtime, just meeting for a drink, not a meal. Not on weekend. If you're attracted you'll know straight away, and so will they. Keep date to about an hour max, even if you both hit it off together. Make your excuses and end the meeting. Part with a kiss if you're feeling confident it or a peck on the cheek if you're nervous. Remember it's a date. If she pushes you away at least you know where you stand and you've both made your intentions clear. No friend zone for you lol!

Don't commit to meeting again at this point and no messages. Give it at least 24 hours and, if you enjoyed the date and want to see them again, message them saying so. It's important to tell them that you like them and want to see them again. Don't ask them, tell them. If they like you, they will tell you.

Date 2: Arrange a weekend date. You know you can devote more time because you know you like each other. A meal, movie, or bowling etc. If you don't want to do what she suggests, tell them and suggest something else. If they are busy on the weekend, tell them you're happy to meet up on another weekend and leave it at that.

If they like you, they'll make time for you and will want to arrange something.

Again, don't be a pen pal. If they like you they will wait for your message.

When you meet for the second date, greet them with a kiss. Be the gentleman but don't fawn over them. Have a good time, maybe tell them a bit more about yourself but don't have any in depth emotional conversations. Don't talk about previous relationships and if they start doing this, stop them. You're there to have a good time and to do this you need to keep it light and have fun. Keep date 2 to about 2-3 hours, end the date, but this time you should be parting with a proper lingering kiss. Oooh! :) Remember you are looking for romance and so are they. You've made your intentions clear and if you don't make these moves, you are putting yourself in the friend zone.

Date 3: Ok, things are getting serious. Set up a weekend date but offer to cook for them or get a takeaway at your home, or at theirs. Whichever way you arrange it, if she is coming to yours be clear that you will make sure she gets home safely later that evening. If she is hosting you at her place, assure her that you will be gone by a certain time, 11pm or whatever because you have an important thing to do the following morning, whatever that is. Eat your food, have a great evening with lots of kissing and physical time together but don't have sex and get her home (or leave hers) as you said you would. If she asks you to stay over, tell her maybe next time you meet..

If you get this far you are set. You've both made the effort to spend quality time together, but still have exciting times ahead. You've still got lots to learn about each other, but you know enough to warrant investing more time together. You're not a pushover. She needs to get your agreement on things, but you're reliable and she can trust you.

Date 4: Need I say more?

Thanks for taking the time to write all of that, it was an interesting read. I already do some of that. I've been on dates before in the past where we have literally just hit it off right away on the first date and end up in about 2 year relationship afterwards while others can end up being casual. I'm ready to settle down with somebody now so I'm hoping I can meet somebody decent. I actually went back on the dating site yesterday but no joy yet it normally takes a while before I can get more lined up.

Sadly it comes down to this and always has. Some of us find it easy with women, some of us struggle.

It doesn't matter where you source the dates from, the problem is still the same.

If you can't have fun on a date, enjoy it for what it is and go into each one without any expectation except having a fun time in the moment you are going to be disappointed.

But, she actually said 'as a friend'? You didn't say this before and as some have mentioned you seem to have quite a negative slant on things, so it looked like you were shutting things down, when it might have had a chance... that was all. If she said that, fair enough. If this is the case I'm not sure why you wouldn't message saying 'Sorry, friends doesn't work for me. It was nice meeting you' all the same, but hey, you do you.
Yep she said we were friends she said it on the second meet up. The reason why I didn't say it before was because I was under the illusion that the meet ups were in fact dates and because I wanted it to be something it wasn't I was giving myself false hope that it was more, she did give me friends zone hints before then but it wasn't enough for clarity so I was never sure but I had an idea that it might be just friends but I wanted to be confident about the meet ups convincing myself that things were moving forward... so after the second meet up I did still feel confident but then she made it clear later on that she didn't want anything more then just friends, she said she saw me as a sibling and all that while texting later on that evening, so that confirmed it for me and then I started thinking about the possibilities of her wanting intimacy with me at some other stage if I continued with it and then I started getting second thought and I then thoughts more about what would be best and that was when I decided just to end it.

Question: why do you feel women choose to only be your friend after your recent dates?
It's normally to do with many factors... like not being her type, not having the right look such as build, frame size height, the right hair. They are normally the main things which boils down to attraction. I know there are other things like charisma, character etc etc. I don't mean to tare all women with the same brush with what I'm going to say here because I know there are women who are different otherwise I would have given up on it. I'm just an average guy. I'm not in the 10 ten and I'm not ugly either I'm sort off in the middle and from my observations I have noticed the type that women go for and they are usually men with a certain frame size mainly. I'm tall around 6 foot so that gets me through the door at least but I don't have the frame size that goes with it and I have a bit of belly fat which isn't really relevant. I'm not fat tho I'm average build. I feel I don't have the charisma they are looking for either although I try my best but I be me rather than trying to force myself to be somebody who I am not but I can be funny at times and I have made woman laugh which in my view is a plus but it doesn't really change anything. I make sure I'm well dressed I don't over do it tho, and I make sure I'm clean and smell nice so I think I have a lot covered but there isn't a lot you can do about genetics unfortunately and I go on these dates because I know not all woman are the same and will be for generic looks. I don't go for super models I go for pretty average women chubby or slim I don't really care as long as they are attractive and I know that I have a chance with them. I think I get friend zoned because I'm just not quite enough for them and they are looking for better options. Its also quite common for a lot of guys to get friend zoned.

It does seem like the more confidence I have the harder I fall on my face. I do go on these dates with a positive mindset, I was told once that I smile a lot...

It was damn expensive that was the worst bit. I was not earning half what I do now at the time. The pool of people I liked and liked me was quite small too. But it was Peterborough. Eww!

I think your biggest issue here is a lack of self-confidence.

You seem to put waaaaay too much thought into what they think of your appearance, but you have to remember they already know what you look like before even agreeing on a date. So that part is already done with by the first date, where focus should be on getting to know each others natural personalities.

If what you say is true (re women and their wanted type) then how are all these other ugly blokes married? Your thoughts are illogical and come from a lonely, depressive place which you need to pull yourself out of so you can give positive energy.

If you don't love yourself, why should someone else?

Yes, most people don't find arrogance attractive, but on the flip side having zero confidence in yourself gives the same ick. You need to believe in yourself more.

Hit the gym, change your wardrobe, start feeling yourself and gain some confidence in these areas where you appear to be lacking and perhaps that will change your fortunes.

The forum knows I'm pretty damn negative. But I can definitely see it in the OP.

More than negative actually. Almost a defeated forlorn attitude. And a bit too much gender stereotyping.

My comments would be
- don't go in hoping/expecting more. Enjoy the date for the date. If something comes after great. I know this is easier said than done.
- try not to appear desperate in any way, people can sense this a mile off. All genders can. Try to put yourself in the other person's shoes. If you weren't interested, is someone being too keen going to change your mind? No. If you are interested.. Is someone being too keen going to put you off? Quite possible. Being too keen is only a bad thing.
-Be yourself. I know this is cliche. But really, if you're looking for a relationship being fake (clothes, attitude, personality etc) is only going to cause issues down the line. Of course be on decent behaviour. But if you find something offensive/funny? Don't be the opposite to it.
-be up front with deal breakers. For me this was not wanting kids. Yes I'm going to put people off, but I don't want these people anyway. No point wasting time.
-don't be bitter/rejected if it goes well from your perspective but it doesn't carry on. This can be hard too. But building resentment is no good for anyone.

Some crossover in those. And I am by no means a ladies favourite! So feel free to ignore! :D.

If I was dating now? I would absolutely be myself. I would turn up wearing pink. Because if someone's going to be put off by that... It's not going to work.

FYI, I have anxiety/depression (not meeting people though), ADHD (almost guaranteed), where horrendous outfits and I talk a damn lot. I did not used to be. I used to be shy, try to fit in, over keen. But if you can break out of that. It'll help a lot. Particularly the attitude. Nothing worse being in a date with who's a downer.

I did all that before and it changed nothing. I get plenty of exercise and I also do weights but I'm not muscular. I'm always confident on dates I am always in a positive mindset on dates. You do have a point there about ugly guys with nice looking women, I have seen them about and to be honest it does make me rethink about stuff.

So that's it then? You're just too average looking to find a partner and nothing can be done? You sound like you're blaming the women...

Honestly, from your posts and opinions, you don't sound confident or positive, you actually sound anxious and depressed. Defeated desperation is perhaps the thing you need to work on then?

Get off the dating the scene. Stop actively looking for someone.

Two things have struck me reading this thread. The first is that I get the impression that you are looking to date someone just because you think you should be dating somebody, not because you actually want to be with anyone. You keep mentioning your age and I think you are panicking now and feel that you should already be in some kind of relationship. That leads to me the second thing. You say keep getting friend zoned after a couple of dates. But you say you are confident and funny etc. etc. while on the dates. Women are far more intuitive than men. They pick up on so many cues that men are oblivious to. You are coming off as both uninterested and desperate. It's not surprise to me reading this thread that you are been friended or ghosted.

You say you don't meet women yet you told of us of times that there has been a spark of interest with a woman you were with and realised later you should have asked her out. Maybe this is because you aren't ready? Aren't really looking?

Back to my first sentence. You are trying to force things now. You are putting way too much pressure on yourself to get a date. Stop it. Do what others suggest. Join clubs, take up new hobbies. Stuff that interests you. Don't just join a club because you think more women will be in it. Try to meet somebody in a more natural, less forced way.

Sorry if this sounds harsh. It's just the vibe I am getting from reading your posts. You are either going to drive yourself into depression trying to meet somebody because you feel you have to. Or you are going to end up with someone that just isn't good for you.

And second apology, I might be reading into your posts all wrong. It is just an internet forum after all. But the advice still stands. What you have been doing up to now hasn't worked and seems to be causing you some stress. Go out, have fun, join clubs and if you meet a girls eye go ask her out.

I'm always confident on dates I am always in a positive mindset on dates.
Don't forget, this is how you're perceived by others. You can't really tell how they perceive you. You might feel you're being confident, but they might perceive something different. Just something to consider. We're telling you we're getting strong negative vibes. Maybe your dates are feeling it too. Just something to think about.

I would say OPs writing style vs content of writing is countering.

OP says he is confident funny etc, but if he portrays his emotions as he writes? Probably coming across as opposite.

Maybe ask some of these dates or even friends how they think you come across?

Sometimes people (especially men) aren't aware of thier own projections.

Yeah, it's tricky asking friends, as they know you, so they won't really be able to say how a first impression might be. I remember going on a work secondment for a few weeks and asking for anonymous feedback at the end. When I told people I worked with regularly how I was generally perceived, they were rather surprised (as was I). But if that's what they felt, you have to accept that and see what you can do to mitigate any negatives.

this threads mad, im barely 5,2 and fairly average looking and got married at 34 (3 years ago). Stop with the self negativity and get out there lad!
