Firstly, De Zerbi is better than Ange & Frank, secondly, they have a pretty decent squad - especially the midfield. Kudus, Simons, Fernandez, Tonali, Madison. Even Gallagher, Sarr and Bentancur are decent enough squad players.

It's probably their attack that needs work, Richarlison isn't prolific enough, Solanke is too injury prone and Tel isn't a #9.

The defence has been significantly strengthened too with Van Hecke and Senesi joining.

It would be strange to stop there and not sign a striker although I doubt they'll be able to get one the same calibre as their other signings.

Europa League qualification feels like a realistic target now if (and only if) they figure out the injury problems.

Next up will be a winger and a striker whilst we sell / loan a few and it would be the best window we could possibly ask for.
 
I’m sold Steur seems to be the type of midfielder profile we are lacking. Can pass the ball for a start, high IQ and most importantly can play in a possession based style of football.

Of course he will. You don't make money as the big clubs by not spending money. Missing out on the CL and finishing in the bottom half of the table is probably worth £100m. You don't buy a massive club like United to make money from them unless you are the Glazers and can lump all the debt onto the club.

On the surface of things it looks like more incompetence and a reluctance to accept that there is an inflated market for footballers. Anderson was going to City from quite early in the season and only Pep leaving opened the door to anyone else. Tottenham have thrown a grenade into the room by outlaying nearly £200m on Premier League proven midfielders. United are almost out of the contractual messes of multiple seasons where we ended up with talent that was "not on the pitch" and being paid a fortune. So I can't blame Ineos for the principle of not repeating those errors.

On the positive side we haven't spent £80m on Antony (yet) but the start of the season isn't that far away and our midfield consists of a player that can't get a second in the national team. Maybe Tuchel took him to carry the balls. Maybe there is a clever masterplan but I suspect they've been shocked by sums of money required to sign players and are looking a tier down. Tchouameni has been touted for weeks but he's likely going to the World Cup Final and is apparently on a kings ransom at Madrid so that seems far fetched. Bournemouth are waiting to rinse anyone try to pry the lad Scott away. I suspect we end up playing £80m for Baleba and trying to spin it that he was always the one they wanted.

Tbh - I'm not that fussed about it all. Nothing will change until the Glazers are removed.

I didn’t mean he won’t spend, my point is he will want to spend carefully

No matter how much you spend in football, you have to spend well. If Spurs don't do well with these signings they might not be in financial trouble but they will have the same issue United had for years. An overpaid, underperforming squad that you can't move players on from for any money.

No they didn't. They've been spending huge amounts for years now and ended up where they are as a result. Once last seasons accounts are out there total spend won't be far off £700m (maybe even more than that) over 3 seasons.

They've just never spent £100m on a player before, instead buying loads of £40-60m players.

I was referring to Eze, Morgan Gibbs-White and Mbeumo where they took too long over pushing for a better deal and ultimately lost out.
