holiday prices......

Birmingham airport is pretty naff. It's super crowded in departures and the whole place is poorly laid out. Having to wait for a lift to get to security is crazy. The drop and go car park is terrible too with long queues to get out every time I've used it.
Not flown from there for a good while.

Edinburgh airport is shocking, I don't think it's changed much in twenty years.

Last time we were there we we queueing up on the tarmac to get into the terminal to queue to get through passport control.

We went to Normandy this year stayed at arromanche, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves so looking at booking 2 weeks for the same period next year, pleasantly surprised it's only gone up £45 compared to this year

The ferry over seems to also be very similar prices.

Edinburgh Airport is great. Queues in security are the quickest I've ever seen. Not used passport control in a while mine. But everything else is fine.

We must travel at different times.

It's the coming back that's been a farce

I only travel nationally so yeah probably. But Edinburgh Airport security is incredible now, basically never a queue. Glasgow on the other hand...
It's the return that's been a nightmare tbh.

Going through is ok. But yeah, mine have all been international which will make a difference.

E: That said, I will use again because it's easier in other regards using Edinburgh.

However, Paris CDG I would actively and happily take a longer route just to avoid having to go there ever again.

The lift system is a bit silly, but the renovations appear to have improved flow and the security queues aren’t particularly onerous. Very dependent on time of day too. I quite like the convenience of the place compared to having to drive to London airports.

Still can get good deals, I booked 2 nights in London for £240 with breakfast at a decent-ish hotel.

But it was not half term, that helps.
London's actually pretty cheap compared to the rest of the country these days, there's so much competition around.

Eating, drinking and staying around the Peak District area near us is way more expensive.

@malachi - Birmingham airport must have been an experience in the 90’s! I find is very good these days, but if it was anything like the old New Street Station and the Pallisades

Yes, no rough people hanging outside asking for money :D

Cheapest flights I could find to Tenerife on Ryanair for our family of 4 next August were £1700-£1800. Pain!

Was worse over covid when the lift wasnt working and you had to take the stairs.

Whenever I've got a deal somewhere, when we check back the price to go back there they've all literally gone up thousands. It feels like the all inclusive deals are sort of one offs where they are only good deals that season then aren't relevant for a few years.

Think they've been trawling this forum mate

BBC News - Edinburgh Airport to expand terminal in £500m investment plan

I'd expect northern airports all to get some form of government help as part of devolving power from central London with it's four airports..

Holiday costs have crept up in the last 2 years. Short weekend away is easily 1k, 3-4k for a week in Europe seems normal now. Decent all in inclusive for 1 week can easily go for 3k.

I think Ryanair were saying their fuel bill is going to go up from $1Bn/2026 to $7Bn/2027. I'm sure reform will love the messaging that will given given their donor makes his billions in aviation fuel. No holiday for TinyTimmehTempha this year..

So expect prices next year to be horrific, and for flights booked this year to probably end up being cancelled/rescheduled due to the reduction in flights for flight routes.
