TV Licence Super Thread

It is understood any new cash raised under the plan will need to be spent on reviving local journalism and tackling misinformation, which has fuelled the rise of parties such as Reform UK.

Give me a ******* break, the biggest spreader of bs is the BBC itself.
It just needs to die a graceful death, then **** right off.

Closely followed by ITV and Ch4 news.

"tackling misinformation, which has fuelled the rise of parties such as Reform UK"

So much for the impartial BBC. Stopped watching mainstream media of all sorts (and never 'watched' the advertising platform, which incidentally are misrepresented as 'social media' everywhere.

To be fair, £180pa is a subscription. The TV license has always been a subscription.

I'm not aware of any other 'subscription' where I'm liable to receive a criminal conviction even if I never consume any of the content, and don't want to but do want to consume some other content providers content 'live'…?

No I don’t think there are any others that would result in a criminal conviction, but if you want to use any of the features that the TV license covers, you need to pay the TV license.

You can opt out by not using any of the features or services that require the TV license.

Absolute leeches. They have inserted themselves on youtube etc and then demand people pay their tax. They don't own or fund these platforms. Youtube should ban them.

Luckily they probably picked the hardest things to enforce. Especially now everyone is using VPNs. Just register under a different address so they can't cross-reference you.

People are, and now actual alternatives exist enough people are opting out that they're scared they wont be able to survive.

So instead of improving their offerings to entice people in, they're coming up with hair brained schemes to force people to pay for their service wether they use it or not.

It'd be like moving out of a rental only for the landlord to insist you keep paying the rent until he finds another tenant.......

A tv license covers use of bbc iplayer and live broadcasts, that's its. If I stop a streaming service at most I'll get an occasional email offering xxx amount off the sub price for xxx amounts of months to resub to their service. What I don't get is multiple threatening letters through the post claiming I'm looking at a fine and possible jail time if I don't sign back up, nor do i get a vist from their enforcement division telling porkies about why I need to resub.

Seems like a rage bait article.

The government might be doing something or not, who knows.

We will know more when this white paper is published.

There is no indication on how this proposal is going to work.

This is also one of many proposals that are being considered apparently. No doubt this is probably the worst one they've mentioned so far.

Well you can guarantee they will do the thing which benefits the public least, but what corporations want. As history shows.

Simple resolution is to use a vpn to access YouTube and get around the TVL if they ever tried to implement it.

Am sure tue streamer companies would not be happy at the TVL.

Good luck trying to enforce TVL on Morphe YouTube/Smartube

The only way it would encompass everyone is added it as a tax to broadband etc (which providers like EE have already said hell no)

I unfollowed a channel on YouTube yesterday for spamming annoying shorts and realised I'm now not following anyone. Seems like YouTube is even lower value than BBC TV.

I despise shorts.
Morphe has some customisations to stop them being pushed onto you but I still see them.

They will be playing back and forth for years over the legal definition of "broadband", which is an old term from the days of ADSL etc.

One thing will remain which is this generation don't care about the BBC or the license fee. Many don't even know there is a TV license because they never watch/listen to the BBC or read it's propaganda, or even watch TV at all. They can say more things now require a license, but it doesn't mean people will actually go and pay it. You still have the ability to tell their "inspectors" to sod off if they ever come knocking. Their silly scare tactics don't work any more.
