I've seen folks on twitter echo similar thought, and also say well bioware has always had gay characters, yes true but the 2 are entirely different.
Old Bioware: here's character A, who happens to be gay. Focused on story 1st.
New Bioware: here's Gay character A, they are Gay, yes you heard us, they're Gay, yup Gay aren't we amazing. GAAAAAAAAAY. Focused on character sexuality 1st with story a distant 2nd.
Old Bioware: play our game, its good!
New Bioware: we don't like your political and social views so don't play our game, in fact you deserve to die for said politcal and social views.
So yeah, it's not really that surprising the 'chuds' are taking victory laps and dunking on these clowns that have infested video games. As i said before I've no issue with studio's whose employees tell 80% of their potential player base to not buy their product go down the *******.
Maybe one day they'll start concentrating on just making games instead of activism with a slice of gaming. If people disagree with that general sentiment, well then they are probably one of the handful that thought DA:V was a good game![]()
Oh I don’t disagree, I’d like to think (though doubt in some cases) that people aren’t generally bothered with what is in the game, it’s how it’s implemented. Though I also have to remember that grown adults got upset that body type was renamed A/B, that kind of stuff is at the you need to get a grip level imo.
I’m all for diverse whatever in media, but don’t treat diversity as a feature, make it organic with the storytelling and world. A character being whatever shouldn’t (IMO) be a defining thing, plenty of other media manages it. Don’t make it a box ticking exercise either. Look at things like Cyberpunk, everything is fluid in that game but they didn’t make it a focal point outside of one questline where it was ultimately not that big of a deal.
It’s the same annoyance I get when conditions are spoken about like that’s all a person is, no you’re not ‘ADHD’, you’re a person who has it, don’t make a condition your defining personality trait and inject it into everything.
I’m not going to celebrate people losing their livelihood in cases like this, heck if it was a uk studio and they end up unemployed, I guess everyone is happy to be paying taxes to keep those people on their feet with benefits.
Hopefully the good that will come out of the new studios that open with the (genuine) talent will pay dividends in future.
