New summer transfer thread

Imo you'd be far better off going for somebody like Defoe who's at a better age, better price and will offer you something different to what you have.

I agree, I think he would be a way better bet at Manu than Berbatov. Much more likely to be happy playing half the games too when everyone is fit.

how? he's just another small and quick man.

we need someone who can take the ball in and provide the killer lay off for roonster or tevez, given the chance.

Just another quick man? You need someone fast enough to work with the speed you already have. Lay off to rooney and co? I thought it was said you needed someone to bang them in with their own talents feeding off those players. Now it turns out you want yet another player to set up rooney.

You need someone to feed off Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo not the other way around.

no i said we shouldnt have sold smith, so that we could punt it long he could knock it down and then rooney or tevez score from it. (watcht he roma game, it worked!)

but yes the player does need to be able to score himself. but unless he can hold the ball up, what advantage would we be getting over someone like , Saha, for example?

Roma game aside, what did he really offer us? Seriously. The Roma game was one of those nights where everything went right for us.

It isn't just a question of us selling Smith, but more so him wanting to move on to a club that would play him more. Smith is limited, he doesn't share the same movement as our other strikers, doesn't possess that vision for a killer ball. Rooney has it, Solskjaer has it, Giggs has it, Scholes has it, Tevez has it (yet to be demonstrated with us of course) Saha has it, Carrick has it, Ronaldo has it. Get the picture?

You have implied so far this season that we have been unable to win a game because Smith wasn't playing. It would be no different if he was still with us. He would have been just as frustrated as the rest of the players and probably booked a few times as well. I have no doubts that during this season, that you'll say 'we shouldn't have sold Smith, that would have been the perfect game for him, etc etc'. Forget Smith, he's gone, look to the players we have right now. Most of which are already better than him.

smith offers nothing to a team like man utd. of course he's "plucky" (read : A bit of a thug) but he's slow, one footed, short and has less of a goal threat than if you stuck my mum up front.
fergison did good work getting rid :)

okay so take away the plucky bit and you have just described a certain Ryan Giggs, yet he is currently playing up front for us.

Its utter maddness.

they may be technically better than him given certain attributes but they cannot bear his ability to hold the ball up and play the target man. we had a round hole and tried to plug it with a triangle if you will. unfortunately it doesnt fit.

if it did we wouldnt have pages of speculation regarding Anelka, Berbatov, or Defoe...

Albert Luque apparently joins Ajax for an undisclosed fee. Glad to see him go, though I still think he was a talented player.

A highly gifted targetman who wins headers?

Ah yes for all the long balls and crosses Utd put into the box

Andy Gray made a decent point the other day, he was saying that over the last 10 years Utd's game was all about Beckham and Giggs staying out wide and putting crosses into the box where as now Giggs plays in field and the likes of Ronaldo and Nani start out wide and cut in, Utd put very few crosses into the box nowdays.

Imo Utd are missing somebody who can play alongside Rooney or Tevez not somebody who can replace them, they need somebody who can turn defences and run in behind them. With the way Utd play i can't see Berbatov offering anything different to what they currently have.

Heard yesterday Newcastle were giving him Ajax for free :o

A player with good technique totally wasted by souness and roeder who both dont have a clue :p class player but a bit lazy and when you are behind ameobi in the pecking order you know its time to leave  will save ££££££££££££ in wages so had to go .

Why on earth would Inter loan him out?

Thats what I heard on SkySports news eariler.

Its not settled at Inter apparently. Wants to move. It did say about a loan, which is stupid I feel. If you dont want a player and feel that he has no part of the team in the future, then why not just sell him and move on.

In the report, there are apparently other teams that are intrested in him, but a move to the premiership might just make up his mind.

At Inter, I think they are favouring Crespo and that 'Cruz fella.

Inter are favouring those two as well as Suazo and Ibrahimovic. He's out of favour because his form last season was pretty poor. Inter don't want to sell him but feel a loan move might help him regain some form.

Wouldn't mind Arsenal taking Adriano on loan even if he is a bit lazy, inconsistent and is about as good with his right foot as I am with my left.

Not the kind of move I can see Wenger going for though.
