I think the Vega demo was more about Threadripper more than anything else if we 2 months away on Vega, they are still working on drivers I would think.

Remember that failed nV/AMD merger, which fell through because JHH wanted to be CEO? And how many CEOs AMD has been through since then; the failed Bulldozer project...

A merged nV/AMD with JHH at the helm... we'll never know how that could have turned out either.

I thought that was Intel not Amd?.

Well look at this way guys, with all the people now ordering their 1080ti's, us AMD users will be able to pick up a cheap second hand 1080ti in the members market when volta desktop GPUs arrive, maybe able to pick up a 1080ti for £400? :D :D :D

You're more than welcome to my castoff's in 10-11 months man.

I was more than happy with Gregter's 1080 cast off. The card was in like pristine condition. I thought my cases dust filters were good, but his are on another level. Either that or he polished it before sending it to me :p

Either way, great buy that was. Would not hesitate to deal with him again. Top man :D

Yeah there's been some good deals in the MM on the 1080's lately :)

If this was the case why **** feed or drip feed Vega officially since before Polaris was even out ?

Hype and to keep it in the news and in peoples minds and have everyone talking about it, the sheer beauty of marketing power ;)

Of course though, if said product is a flop then this strategy of AMDs will do them far more harm than good....

I always get the feeling that AMD try to be like apple in this way, unfortunately apple can always get away with sub par expensive items since apple is a religion ;)

Just curious, what was it like for ryzen/zen? I'm pretty sure it was much the same as vega but for far longer?

Regarding the above, was just checking out other discussions/review threads and it's amazing that the vega thread DWARFS any other GPU thread, including all of nvidias threads, you could even combine most of the threads and the vega thread would still dwarf them! :p :D

Granted 90% of the content was all rubbish but just goes to show, the hype is real and AMDs marketing works in the sense that it gets people talking about their products, good or bad ;) :D :p

I'm sure you will be upgrading a lot sooner than that to volta ;) :D :p

Reminds me of Trump where years ago I remember him saying there is no such thing as bad publicity. That really turned out to be true for him didn't it. lol :D

It can only be the drivers holding the release of RX Vega, Raja pretty much said the same thing in the Reddit AMA:

For all those who are disappointed just read the above and let it sink in before replying. Sure Raja could probably release Vega tomorrow if he wished but it would get reviewed and then panned which could potentially damage AMD's reputation irrecoverably, surely they should release it when it's ready and if that means an extra two months of driver optimisation to squeeze every ounce of performance from the card then so be it.

With working card demonstrated in CES it sure ain't about lack of time to write working drivers.
It's 99,9% sure that question is about HBM2s availability in decent amounts.

Smaller prototype/pre-production batches being enough for high profit margin low numbers Frontier Edition sales, but not enough for real mass production needed for consumer product.
With Nvidia's Teslas also taking HBM2s.

It can be things other than drivers. They only very recently applied for certification, which is one of the last things they do BEFORE mass production, it means they've only just started producing cards and they now need time to produce enough and ship them to get ready for a release. Which fits the time line for end of July initial release. That also gives them time to work on drivers, but I very much doubt they have product ready to sell but just waiting on drivers.
