The only saving grace is that AMD might have something really good i.e. just look at what happened with ryzen when reviews were released, intel supposedly wanted to talk to all the reviewers etc. before the reviews were published and then intel quickly acted on massive price slashes (funnily we still haven't seen any of these price cuts in the UK, good old UK pricing/retailers eh...)

So if this were the same for vega/gpus/nvidia, then maybe that is why AMD want to keep everything super secret till the final reveal and where people can buy straight after the press event, no revealing what they have now only to not be able to buy said product for another month or so and in return give nvidia time to whip something up or allow them to do the price slashes (which is what a lot of people/nvidia fans who have no intentions on buying vega are waiting for mainly)

Also, they could be wanting to build up stock so that they avoid the repeat of the fury x launch i.e. wasn't it like less than 10 for each brand in stock on ocuk? And crazy high price due to the shortage.

In regards to nVidia and consoles (AMD) I truly believe that they are nVidia's main competition now (and have to keep prices reletively sane or will force people over).

Just look at intel and their release scheme as well as pricing ;)

I doubt nvidia care too much about consoles tbh, PC has always been the enthusiast platform and as shown, most of the "serious" PC gamers are more than happy to pay big money to be a part of the PC gaming sector as well as nvidia customers being more than happy to upgrade every year.

OP updated. If it is missing anything, post it here and I will copy and paste it in.

@ TNA You should have reserved 5 or 6 posts at the beginning of the thread.
Yeah, forgot about this. I do not really make threads like this, that is Kaaps speciality. Plus to be honest I thought this thread would only last a few weeks until the cards are released which would have their own individual threads. Did not think we would be waiting until Augest for RX Vega to launch.

If this was the case why **** feed or drip feed Vega officially since before Polaris was even out ?

@Kaapstad - Will you be buying the VEGA Frontier Edition? :D

It essentially looks like a Titan to me. More VRAM (which you really wanted) and you get your hands on it months before anyone else here :p

Of course he will be, got to top those ocuk benchmark leaderboards but never actually play the games :p :D ;)

Hype and to keep it in the news and in peoples minds and have everyone talking about it, the sheer beauty of marketing power ;)

Of course though, if said product is a flop then this strategy of AMDs will do them far more harm than good....

I always get the feeling that AMD try to be like apple in this way, unfortunately apple can always get away with sub par expensive items since apple is a religion ;)

Just curious, what was it like for ryzen/zen? I'm pretty sure it was much the same as vega but for far longer?

I could be that they are still building up stock for RX VEGA range of cards (due to shortage of HBM2) while selling a bunch of VEGA Frontier Edition's to those who cannot wait so they make much larger profit margins like Nvidia do with their Titan's. But then come to think about it if this is the case, they could have marketed it soooo much better.

I'm just thinking... what was the last GFX card from AMD that didn't disappoint a large % of us? Not the 480/580, which caused a lot of disappointment. Not the Fury/X which also failed to excite.

So... maybe the 290? The 390 was a re-brand, and I remember the disappointment that caused.

So I think we can honestly say the 290 was the last card from AMD that delivered and met expectations.

Obviously AMD superfans will say the 580 was a resounding success, etc, etc. Those people are free to live in their own little private reality.

290 and 290x went up for preorder without a price or performance lol.
And then the temperature and noise on stock cooler was terrible lol

it is more like a firepro/quadro compared to a Titan. It comes with pro drivers.
Ah I see. I suppose if someone even did buy one then they would have to wait for RX Vega drivers to make full use of it potentially.

Must be a gaming card.
The way Raja made it sound like it will also be a gaming card from what I recall, but I could be wrong. But may not ship with gaming optimised drivers, just the firepro drivers maybe? We will see soon I suppose.

You can still game on it, is what he said. But if you want a gaming optimised version of vega, then wait for retail/gaming vega.

What a disappointment. I was hoping we'd get some more concrete Vega information as I'd been holding off on upgrading my GTX1080 and was hoping Vega would be worth giving a go. All we got was a poor demo of Prey, with no performance information. Such a shame, off to get a GTX1080Ti ordered.

That's my concern about buying a Frontier edition on release, I'd prefer a 16 gb version rather than a 8 gb model but, if the gaming drivers most of use don't support Vega yet it's pointless buying a Frontier edition for gaming until the RX versions are released along with the updated driver's, If I do get a Frontier edition I'd want a watercooled one but I'll also wait until the RX's are out to see if they are actually faster as RAJA claims or if as I suspect is it only the faster out of the box clocks that make it seem so.

Well look at this way guys, with all the people now ordering their 1080ti's, us AMD users will be able to pick up a cheap second hand 1080ti in the members market when volta desktop GPUs arrive, maybe able to pick up a 1080ti for £400? :D :D :D

I still wonder what it would be like if ATi had existed today...
Remember that failed nV/AMD merger, which fell through because JHH wanted to be CEO? And how many CEOs AMD has been through since then; the failed Bulldozer project...

A merged nV/AMD with JHH at the helm... we'll never know how that could have turned out either.
