**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

Can someone tell me what the deal is with the different driver versions people are posting here, I'm seeing DCH versions, clean versions etc. What are they, what's the difference and is there any impact on performance in games between them? Cheers.

There may be minimal difference in performance between driver versions. Like when they release a new driver for BFV its either performance improvements or bug fixes(or both).
I believe a clean install is when you only install the driver, you can unzip the installer and just install the driver without all the associated guff.
Dont know what DCH is.....

Personally I just use geforce experience now.

I saw a small bump in performance on Tomb Raider going from a driver that was pre game release to a much newer one.

Looking at the benchmark threads you can see some variations in performance between older and newer releases, looks like the 417.xx drivers are working well so I may update at the weekend if I get time. I like to do a before/after when updating the driver.

If you have the full fat driver on I would suggest using DDU to ensure all the bloatware is removed.

You don't need DDU.

GUIDE: Remove NVIDIA GPU Driver

Why was this guide created?

3rd Party software uninstallers (DDU, CCleaner, Nvidia Uninstall Utility) have been known to cause software corruption by removing essential chipset, audio and system library files. This may cause system instability, OS corruption or personal data loss.

Why should I use this guide?

If you suspect software issues with the GPU driver or plan to up/downgrade GPU/driver version, you could benefit from the guide. The posts show that around 95% of the users gave positive feedback, as it fixed short and long term issues ranging from error messages, in-game stuttering, poor SLI scaling, missing features, low FPS and driver induced system crashes.

Is this guide compatible?

Anyone else have a problem with hardware acceleration using a 20 series card? Performance is really bad with it switched on in both FF and Chrome for me. Just starting the browser takes noticeably longer. It seems to be the case with all the available 4xx drivers and I noticed the same thing with 2 different 2080 Ti's (one gigabyte, one asus). Switch it off and everything is fine.

v417.58 'Hotfix' Released

This is GeForce Hotfix driver version 417.58 that addresses the following:

  • Black screen when resuming from monitor sleep on some DisplayPort monitors
  • Windows 7: FPS drop when G-sync is used with V-sync in games
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Fixes occasional application crash in DirectX 12 mode
  • Fixes black screen on BenQ XL2730 monitor using 144Hz refresh rate
  • Fixes lockup when resuming from sleep on MSI GT83 notebook

Got a new laptop during the Black Friday sales which supports G-Sync. It's a 1080p 144Hz panel driven by a 1070 so I doubt it will ever hit 144 FPS. Should I have V-Sync turned on with G-Sync? What are the options with G-Sync?

Also wondering what the difference is between the laptop and desktop drivers? Using the laptop version ATM, but both appear to install and run just fine.

NCP G-Sync on+VSync OR FastSync on, in game: VSync off.

Desktop driver doesn't always install on laptop, desktop version may not have 'Whisper Mode'(Needs enabled via GFE, it's a frame limiter for cooler/quieter running) available.

Waiting for drivers for Resident Evil 2 myself, only a week or so away now. Won’t upgrade drivers after that for a long time :)

What is going on with these nvidia drivers spyware in them.

I doubt it's spyware. At the end of the day for their GF experience and probably other services they need to know what hardware your running so it's probably just sending them back this info.
