Still don't know why football can't learn from rugby, a bit common sense. Put the replay on the big screen, the the TMO advise but have the decision ultimately with the ref on the pitch. Where the replay isn't clear and obvious, go with the original on field decision.

These combined teams are always mad. It was only a couple of years ago that Carragher and Bellew done a combined Liverpool & Everton side and it had 6 Everton players in it.

The Utd team of '99 and this Liverpool side play completely different formations, it's nigh on impossible to come up with a sensible combined team.

You also cannot compare as things were different back then. You had three teams fighting for the league in 98/99 whereas this year has been a whitewash. Like Carra said Giggs stats do not look great from a premier League perspective but you have to look at the FA cup replay which is more than likely one of the best FA cup goals ever. He also had over a decade at the top. Mane whilst his best Season is better than all of Giggs. It is still just one season.

United also had 4 strikers whereas Liverpool has played the front 3 near enough all the time so you cannot compare goals scored as simple stats. We scored 80 odd goals that season even still. Liverpool are on for what 80-90 themselves so not a lot of difference there. Back then you needed 4 strikers as the players just didn't have fitness levels like today's players.

Andy Cole had a good 6 seasons scoring 20 goals a year and ended up with 187 and never got a look in!

Perhaps in ten years time you can compare but not at the moment.

Tbf, had Liverpool been on course to pick up 79 points then we'd have 3 sides fighting for the title too.

These combined teams are nonsense but if, and it still is only an if, Liverpool go on to smash the all time points record, most wins, most consecutive wins and so on, nobody could argue that they aren't the best team in PL history.

Yes but then you have that old chestnut that they only won the prem and nothing else where as United won all three which meant they lost games in the league to focus on the big three. We played 5 Premier League teams to win the FA Cup that season. Chelsea Arsenal and Newcastle being three tough games with replays thrown in. Champions league you had Barcelona and Bayern in the group stage followed by Inter, Juve then Bayern.

Like Roy said if Liverpool do win the the trebble then it is completely different altogether.

You also have to factor in what is the greatest ever Premier League team. That trebble winning side of 1999 went on to win the league 3 times on the trot. What is worth more to determine the greatest a record points total in 1 season or winning it 3 on the bounce?

Whether you go on to win a title or not can often be out of your control. For example, in Utd's treble season it wouldn't have taken much for somebody to pip you to the title. You then have the complete reverse of that last season, where nobody would have expected Liverpool not to have won the title with 97 points. We're one goal away from sitting here talking about Liverpool winning back to back titles with 98+ and 100+ points, plus a CL, Super Cup and World Club Cup. Equally we're one goal away from sitting here talking about Liverpool still having not won a trophy under Klopp. Tiny margins make the world of difference when it comes to who ultimately wins titles.

To go and demolish the league, with a current record of 25 wins and a draw from 26 games (34 wins and a draw in 35 if you include the back end of last season), takes all the chance out of the equation. Forget one goal, ten goals wouldn't change the outcome of this title race. It's super human stuff and something we might not see again so yea, this will be the greatest PL side we've seen. It's actually becoming surreal. Even with just 10 minutes or so left at the weekend, with us not playing amazingly well or creating a load of chances, I still fully expected us to win. It's reached a point where it's going to be the strangest feeling when we do finally drop points again.

This greatest ever team title is a bit silly. Great teams have come from different eras, set different records, won different things. I don't think you can say one team is the greatest. There's an elite level of team that very few teams can live up to. Imo that elite tier currently consists of:

Man Utd treble team
Man City 2017/2018 100pts team*
Arsenal Invincibles
Current Liverpool side

Those four were/are all the elite of their era

*They may have cheated

Arsenal have no right to be on that list anyway. How can you celebrate an achievement that in numerous seasons wouldn't have been enough to even win the League? You could even go unbeaten and be relegated.

It's something different but there's no chance it was as great as picking up 100 points.

you just think they shouldn't be on there because you don;t like Arsenal.

If you don't like the invincibles, we'll take them out and put one of the double winning sides in. You've got a choice of two.

What's better a 100 point season or three on the trott. It's a debate that can be spun which ever way you want it.

It's a pointless argument anyway. The Liverpool side that this season is probably going to go undefeated and get 100 points may not have got anywhere near doing that back in 2003-2--4 when Arsenal did it, and vice versa. It's an argument that no-one will ever win.

You can't say any of these teams are better than each other as they are from different eras, with different personnel and it was a different game. They are just all on an elite tier.

There is one thing you can't really argue and that is players fitness, that is one of the reasons why today's teams would probably beat those of years gone by. You had players smoking an all sorts back then, they're like robots now to ensure peak physical fitness.

I don't like Arsenal but I'm a fan of Utd and City?

You can keep both the invisibles and double winning sides. The double winning sides was nothing new or greater than previous sides that won the double or pre PL when sides won both the League and European Cup. The invisibles was something new and different but success in football is winning, not drawing. If Arsenal replicated that season in each of the last 4 seasons they'd not even have won the League. At least the Utd treble season they have the FA Cup and CL to fall back on to make up for the low points total.

100 point season. I thought covered that in my previous post. As I said, Liverpool could be now be on for back to back titles had it not been for City picking up 98 points last season and City could be on for 3 titles in a row if it wasn't for us. If Liverpool weren't so good does that change how great this City side is and vice versa?
