So mid way in 2019 SQ42 was meant to be in beta Q2 2020, now mid way through 2020 it's now Q2 2021. Hmmm... I'm not sure why but I get the feeling it might not be then.

Forget beta's it was supposed to be released years ago. Currently they're delaying releasing a road map for a road map, which then will only be released in 4 stages.

It's like a Monty Python sketch.

Kickstarted in 2012 which an estimated release date of 2014. At some point SQ42 release get's pushed to 2016, 2016 they announce they have switched engines. On announcement of engine change they say 'It was an "easy and smooth transition" due to Lumberyard's CryEngine roots'. More years go by in 2019 we get beta will be Q2 2020. Now in Q3 2020 we are told it's going to be Q2 2021. Even if they started from scratch at the end of 2016 by their own original estimates it should have been done long ago. That's why I reckon the haven't really been doing any work to SQ42, with a studio their size there's no way it should be taken that long.

they have done some work SQ42, they have showed lots of in game videos of it.

They also hired many known actors/actresses for SQ42. and for what? Just to show a nice trailer of it?

Doubt it is easy for the to dump SQ42 witth the amount of money they have spent on it already.

The star actors did their parts in 2015!

They have been doing work to SQ42 but as time has gone on and the main game development kept dragging on, SQ42 has been moved further down the list of priorities.

i dont think so mate. it is the other way round if CIG are to be believed,

They basically said the reverse ie they concentrating more on SQ42 to get out the door rather then PU/SC

So if that is true that they have been focusing on SQ42 and after 9 years they still haven't got a finished product, is it going to be another 10 years for the rest of it? :p

No i believe they started focusing on SQ42 mostly from a year or two ago

Mostly all the last few game loops are because SQ42 needs them ASAP.

The Idris fo example is being rushed to finish and also i believe pyro plays a large role on SQ42.

This is what CIG do, they wow people with great marketing.
Its a very ambitous game,

Until the game has actually been canned, lets wait and see?

If it takes another 10 years to delivery everything they promised in the detail they have now, it will be worth the wait.

What other game is developing something this extrodinairy?

PLease watch that video, Its very technical but explains the type of dynamic system they are building.

But surely as those ten years trickle by, the once ambitious nature of the game is diluted by the inevitable progress of technology and what can be achieved in terms of gaming? Or do the developers plan to overcome that by perpetually changing their "vision" in order to accommodate for said progression? If so, then the game will never be released in anything resembling a complete product.

We dont know if anyone else is making tech that does this like SC is.

SC is not only making a video game but the dev tools/tech to achieve it.

Last year they literally just finished or at least got Ou a first version of the planetry and station tech done so they can generate a station and planet and just tweak it manually.

THe last video i sent u is another tech they are working on which basically lets them tweak and design a dynamic universe with just a few clicks and drag and drop of items.

Basically, for example, you created a star system wit 4 planets and say 10 moons and 20 stations. Its empty and does notthing. Even if you fill it with 1000 players, there is still no economy or missings to do.

You then drag and drop say a refinery station in a planet that creates aluminium, onc eu drop that, npc's will generate and start working on that refineriy, but wait, it needs aluminum? ok lets place a mining station in a moon, Boom now they can gather and fecth mining material from there, transport it to the refinery. now what?

Ok lets add a shop in another planet that sells aluminum parts to players and npc's, now the npc will have to deliver the raw materials to the shop and boom just like in real life.

You can start with a actual ship component. check what materials it needs to build it and boom, watch that star universe come alive with npc's and players all doing stuff.

Where does the misisons come into play?

Well from the example above , it will generate delivery and mining misisons for real players to do as maybe they need extra pair of hands to get stuff delivered to the refinery etc!

Where does the pirates npc's come into play? well each npc has a personaliy trait so depending on what it is, they will become a pirate if they feel like they could for example hijack your cargo full of alluminum and sell it themselves etc.

NOw you gotta track down that pirate and there you go, there is a PVE or even a PVP(if you yourself become a pirate) combat right then and there.!!

THe next step on that tool is to get the NPC's into actual ships to do the tasks i mentioned above(mining/cargo runs etc).

They want missions to be created dynamically, not handed by a mission giver that practically every game out now does!

There wont be any guides or walkthroughs on how to do a specific misison because there will be all dynamic based on many factors.

This is a game changer and if they pull this off, this will be so damm epic
