8800GT Ramblings Thread

This isn't more powerfull?

Have you seen reviewS?

If you already own a current GTS, I believe it's next to pointless to 'upgrade' to the GT. Yes it's a better card, but it really isn't THAT much better than it.

Unless of course like some people you can sell your GTS for the same price as the new GT's...Then yeah it's worth it.

If however your in my shoes, and have a x1900 for example...It could be a worthy investment upgrading to the GT.

But I shant.

Yes, the firing squad review posted earlier has min, max and average framerates for a load of games. Damn fine review and has lead to me placing an order for one in about ... oh ... 5 minutes :-)

Ah, thanks for that!

Ok, I've done a little bit of analysis from the Firing Squad review using their min and max fps results across six games (Bioshock, Fear, Company of Heroes, Oblivion, World In Conflict and Call of Duty 4). All the results were 1600 x 1200 x 32 with 4xAA and 16AF.

Average Min/Max FPS across all six games for each card was as follows:-

8800 320 - 26/85
8800 640 - 31/93
8800 GTX - 42/134
8800 GT - 35/115

So, accepting that the GTX is still the fastest card, performance difference in percentage terms for each card is as follows:-

8800 320 - 37% slower than 8800GTX
8800 640 - 29% slower than 8800GTX
8800 GTX - NA
8800 GT - 15% slower than 8800GTX

So, the 8800GT is 15% slower than the 8800GTX at that res with that AA, and by default approx 15% faster than a 640MB 8800GTS, and 22% faster than a 320MB 8800GTS.

Not sure what that's telling everybody, but might help a few people make up their minds!! :)

Clarity,

There all the same essentially, the one to get would be the cheapest you can source and probably wouldnt be worth getting rid of your GTS.

Well just slammed my X1950XT on "the popular auction site' on a 3 day auction, a chap's Sapphire is going for £91 at the moment, so hopefully some of the losing bidders will see my auction :p

If I get £80 for it I'll be happy, upgrading to basically GTX speeds for £100 isn't to be sniffed at! :)

I am hoping there is enough to go round to fulfill the orders when their shipment comes in today.

So people are going to be selling off their 8800gts for 100 ish soon?

Do they require 1 or two pci-e power leads? Might try flog my current card and pick up a chepo gts 320 if they run with 1power connector on a 430w psu :)
