** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

Anybody got a link to a/the guide for this Bios flash thing ? Thinking of trying it out.

Please note: I take no responsibility if your card fails after this mod .

Download NiBiTor.v3.5a or the latest v3.5b and nvFlash.v5.57 at http://www.mvktech.net

Then open Nibitor Go to "Tools - "Read Bios" and select Device then ok.

Backup your original bios by going to "tools" - Read Bios- "Read into file" (save as orig.rom)

Then go to tools again then "Read to NibiTor"

then go to the voltage tab

In Exact Mode it Should say 1.05v or its blank either way change it to 1.1v

Then save bios (mod.rom) or what ever you like.

Get nvflash and stick it on a usb stick that can enter dos (or floppy) with your newly created bios

Reboot

Boot into Dos:
type nvflash -4 -5 -6 mod.rom

Asks you to confirm - press Y

Then it should start Flashing, and once done, reboot.

If you read the bios in Nibitor it should now show 1.1v in Exact Mode and if you have a multimeter handy so can read the voltage points to see if its at 1.1v.

If you don't have a PCI graphics card to hand you might want to create a automatic emergency flash disk in case it goes wrong. Saved me a lot of grief in the past.

For the auto thing in an autoexec.bat file do you put:

nvflash -4 -5 -6 -a -y modded.rom?

I tried this and it said bad command or something, also I am using the latest version of NV Flash, earlier ones did not work for me.

Decided to use floppy disk aswell in the end, seems the easiest and most simple way.

I went into Nibitor before the flash and it shown 1.05V, now after it shows 1.1V so thats indeed why I can get 740Mhz core instead of 680 now.

Well I got XP installed, and have just thrown a few utils on... I cant find a copy of 3Dmark06 anywhere, must have deleted the installer.

Max core clock is definatley 740, Using an MSI card 660/1650/1900 @ stock with no bios mod/flash.

Shaders work at 1800 but temps on idle go up to 41c  lol edit: helps if you post the right picture

screenie.jpg

ram ok at 1015 but borks at 1025 (at 1000 in screenie just finding out max core)

So 740/1800/1025 aint to bad, need to get a few games installed on XP and run 3Dmark with diff drivers.

the MSI card came with Colin Mcray Dirt, cool for nowt.

Well I'm gutted

I put my new BFG 8800GT in tonight

Overclocked it to 730/2000

Ran 3dMark06 and got 10288

With my 8800GTS 320Mb I got 10057

I was expecting more to be honest

But not sure something is wrong with my system. ATI tool 0.27 doesn't show any speeds (zero) and doesn't list shader closk either.

Anybody help?

not sure if its a driver problem but for me anything over 975 on my memory 3dmark would freeze. on Need for speed Pro if I have my shaders over 1755 its would crash when going through a tunnel.

But I can play Crysis for 3 hours plus with 770/1825/995 without any problems?

Sounds like 3DMark and NFS Pro Street are buggy tbh there if Crysis run for 3 horus!

I was trying different clocks on the Crysis GPU Benchmark, PC crashed at 740Mhz, so lowered down to 730Mhz, was fine, but I found the best clocks for the best frame rates was 722/1800/1000, gave me better than 730.

With my 4200+ x2 at stock I get 8200 3d marks on bfg 8800gt oc at stock. Thats why I was interested in what your score would be because you have same cpu but overclocked. 3dmark 06 final score is brought down by cpu but I bet it will be great on games.
I'm hoping that when I overclock my 4200+ I'll get closer to 10,000 but when I compare to my previous graphics (7800 gs agp) it is an amazing card. My shader 3.0 score on 3dmark 06 has quadrupled and 2.0 score has tripled. I would also be interested in what score you get with your cpu at stock and gpu at stock.

Still think something is wrong with my system. 200 points is not good for an upgrade to an oc'd GT.

Looking at the 3dmark thread on here I was just behind somebody else who had a 8800GTS and they got a 8800GT and oc'd it and now they are 2000 points ahead of me.

Must spend time fixing it cause on that basis I have not upgraded at all :(

I assume you did all the usual, uninstal drivers, instal card, reinstal latest drivers? What drivers are you /were you using? Might be an idea to check in the bios (or appropriate windows app) and see it your pci is running at x16, also try reinstalling chipset drivers might help too. Pretty sure you've probaby checked all that though already.

Not all that yet. I went to the pub!

But yes, usual uninstall drivers, driver cleaner in safe mode, new drivers etc.

Will check the pci running at 16x tonight and chipset drivers.

Only other thing I did was I am now using the latest 169 drivers (I think) and before I was using drivers from a month ago with my GTS.

I presume I am right that I should have seen more than a 200 point gain?

At stock my 8800GT actually scores far worse than my evga 8800 GTS 320Mb

My system in sig I only score 10,300ish in 06
AMDs are way behind C2D's in 3dMark. Real world gaming wont make much difference though so dont worry ;)

Yeah I know worse luck!

But I was comparing it to my 8800GTS 320Mb score. I know my 8800GT 320Mb was oc at 648/2000 but my GT is at 720/1950 and only gets 200 points more.

I will run it tonight at 648/2000 and I suspect I will score lower than my GTS.

My point is that shouldn't be right? 8800GT is meant to be much faster than a 8800GTS isn't it?

Also compared with you my core on my GT is 200Mhz more and my cpu 0.4 Ghz faster than yours yet I score less?

I am certain something has gone wrong with my system.

The fact that my GT is 33% faster than my 2900 Pro @ XT in Crysis, and the XT is comparable to the GTS, makes me agree with you.
