BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

This shot
shows the 4 vesa holes in the middle of the back.

Ahhh. I understand.

Those 4 holes look pretty weak, however, if the monitor is tilted backwards a little, then there is no reason why it shouldnt be secure, even if the screws aren't super tight. If you keep the monitor tilted forward though, the weight will directly stress the point at which the screw meets the plastic (ie. the thread), where a good thread becomes more important.

I used the screws (well philips headed bolts really since they don't have a taper) that came with my VESA mount.

Surely, most screws would be self taping if being used on a weak plastic such as this? If the screws were being used on a metal bezel, then you would need a very sharp thread which would infer that the screw is specifically designed to be self taping. Most screws are capable of screwing into plastic and creating a thread.

I feel that the phrase "self taping" is being branded about a little too much in this thread.

Ive just seen your pics again.

Can you not remove the back part of the monitor (that has the 4 holes in it) and slip in 4 nuts? You can then use bolts (screwed into the nuts) to make a secure connection. If done this way, the only way for the monitor to fall off, would be if the entire back end of the monitor snaps off.

Hmm so it is!

Ok, could someone post some shots of it in HD trailers / Photoshop at all in good lighting conditions? :)

I'm after something like this:

That's as well lit as my room gets :p (actually brighter in here than it looks)

Looks good! I think the only thing I'd miss is the HDMI input incase if i choose to have a bluray or hddvd player down the line but then again I could just pick up such a drive for the PC !

I'm going to see what other research brings and then make a decision!

Thanks.

Not having read through the entirity of this thread, is there a mounting option that leaves the monitor closer to the wall than 17cm?

I don't really want to wall mount as i often change where i position my desk and workspace.

You can use a DVI to HDMI cable and connect a bluray/hddvd player to it with no problem. Though, if you buy an internal hddvd/bluray drive, the image quality should be just as good, if not better as you can tweak it using ffdshow.

For people worried about gaming at lower res, dont be worried. I tried 1680x1050 and it was fine except my gfx card was still struggling with cod4 so I dropped down to 1280x800 and it still looked fine and my game ran smooth.

Im extremely happy with mine, I think some people will miss out due to brand snobery, buy a samsung badge and stick it on if you want, the DGM picture quality is spot on.
