BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

Viewing angles are excellent.
But I just took a look at that video that was posted earlier. For some reasons the viewing angles in that video seem better to what Im getting now, perhaps it was just the video camera quality perhaps?

Are all the panels the same in these Screen? (i.e. no Samsung/AUO lottery mumbojumbo) ?

Hope it's not going to be another panel lottery to get a VA panel.

IIRC Gibbo has said that this batch (500 in stock) are VA's and he will check the following batches and won't accept ones that dont have a VA panel (I'd have no problem with PVA or MVA).

I used to have a TN monitor and there's no way this is one, the viewing angles are superb.

If I was to be super critical, no holds barred then :

b) I'd rather that the bezel was matt rather than gloss (a la samsung).

c) I would like the anti-reflective coating to be a little more matt (but mine faces a window across the room and it's still ok)

d) It could have a more adjustable stand (but it's dead stable and tilts to where I want it).

That's about it really, I'd been looking for a 24" for a while but couldn't really justify >£400 on one and the cheaper alternatives were all TN which I already had and knew the limitations of. I'd like all the bells and whistles of the more expensive models (1:1 pixel mapping etc) but this one does everything I need and I think it's great value for money.

Ive just seen your pics again.

Can you not remove the back part of the monitor (that has the 4 holes in it) and slip in 4 nuts? You can then use bolts (screwed into the nuts) to make a secure connection. If done this way, the only way for the monitor to fall off, would be if the entire back end of the monitor snaps off.

Yes but you have to remove the ribbon cable from the panel. I was going to take a photo of the back panel from the inside but I didn't want to take the electronics apart :)

Thanks.

Not having read through the entirity of this thread, is there a mounting option that leaves the monitor closer to the wall than 17cm?

I don't really want to wall mount as i often change where i position my desk and workspace.

Yes, use an angle grinder and remove some bricks.

The monitor is ~10cm thick. Good luck finding a decent adjusting bracket that's <7cm from the wall to the back of the monitor.

I think most people are getting spooked by the poor construction of the pedestal stand.

Yeah - the construction is pretty shoddy. I weigh about 12.5 stone (~80kg) the monitor weighs about 7kg. The stand didn't even creak.

"Oooh mummy, it might break when I tilt it...."

Got mine today, this screen is absolutely gorgeous.... ok the stand isnt the most amazing but its not super bad quality, better then the one on my old 19" WS Belinea anyhow.

Off to download some HD trailers for testing, then a few games and i'll back to say a little more.

and to upload some pics... ;)

come on thats not fair, since you know other people are having problems with the stand. mine doesnt click, and i can pull them apart with roughly the force of a 6 month old baby.

The build quality is putting me off.
dont let it. it hasnt changed the mind of anybody who's bought one:)

50:44:51 RGB on mine. brightness 46, contrast 67 posted by james.millar

I find these settings quite good myself...

Ok sorry if I'm posting for the nth time but £250-£300 is a major expense for me and I want to be sure I'm making the right choice.

I have a 320MB XFX PCI-Express GF 8800GTS and mostly play WoW - heavily modded so video resources are eaten up quickly. I don't play other games much except for an fps or some other rpg here and there.

Now my MAJOR worry is this - will I be able to play WoW with decent fps at the 24" native res? Will I fare better getting a 22" which my card can handle well, as some of my computer geek friends seem to be advising me at the moment?

Any tips especially from WoW gamers are greatly appreciated as I really need to decide which monitor to buy before Christmas!!!!

I did it! Finally got the base in!

Took a fair bit of force but it eventually clicked.
Actually I had to do each side separately. I.e insert one tab, then the other.

Right. Last thing to ask about! Viewing angles.

Any of you notice if the viewing angle to the left part of the monitor is not as good as to the left part of the monitor? A little dithered perhaps?

320MB GTS's are awful for higher res gaming... sell it and buy an 8800GT. Then get the 24".

Well I've joined the "Click" club :D

About 2 minutes with a needle file and everything is "clickerty boo" ;)

First I checked the small tabs that are supposed to click into the holes on the leg of the monitor and they were joined together with a thin plastic flashing from the moulding process. As there are two holes on each side the tabs have to be separate otherwise they will not locate in the holes. Cleaned them up and also ran a file down the outside edges of the tabs to make sure they were not to wide to go into the holes.

Then checked the holes themselves and again there was some excess moulding around the edges so cleaned that up and bevelled it slightly.

Also found that the two holes where the round pins fit were closed slightly at the ends so opened then up.

All together about 2 minutes and then pushed it back together and "click" :D

Good news about the base :D

Not noticed any difference side to side and have just rechecked following your post.

Do you notice any "slight" dithering on the right side of the panel compared to the left? E.g. pull up a white screen and make the comparison.

I can see that the right side is ever so slightly dithered compared to the centre.

Am I imagining it perhaps.

Actually for example on this OCUK page I cant see any dithering whatsoever, but if I look at a blank white (or very light page) its ever so noticeable.
