AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

Hi,

Just built my new system... see my sig below (by the way do people like the sig? just designed it :) ---- need to change it, doesnt fit properly haha)

I am completely new to overclocking and wondered if you could give me a hand. I have tried to use AMD Overdrive before I even venture into the BIOS, that way I can give it a go without having to keep opening the bios.

I have the C2 step unfortunately so harder to overclock by the sounds of things? Is AMD overdrive actually any good a program?-I tried to up the multiplyer to x19 or so (think that was 3.8ghz) and upped the voltage to nearly 1.5v, but failed after about 10 mins on prime 95 and got an orange screen followed by reboot. Cooling is fine, on idle about 30c, and prime95 for an hour or so didnt pass 49c (Stock, no overclock)

Anyone got any values for the multiplyer and voltage I could test, or tell me where im going wrong, thanks :)

Working on Prime 95 8 hour blend now.
Then I'll lower the timings and tweak some more.
4050MHZ/2.7/2.7 seems to be the sweet spot for my chip.

i have the 955 BE and was wondering
where would the best place to start for a newbie at Overclocking be?
i have never overclocked anything before so i would think a good place to start would be a good easy to understand instruction so where can i find such a thing?
are there many different overclocking tools? or does everyone use the same tool?

Nice result Martini1991 :) . . . good to see a BE edition owner tinkering with the HT Ref. Clock . . . don't forget to include your name in the screenies!

Hello kellaway225, welcome to the thread! . . . Please read the "Welcome Post" and preferably the whole thread to get an idea of what to do, if there is anything you don't understand while reading the thread then ask away!

At 4050MHZ, with 2.7GHZ HT and 2.7GHZ NB with RAM at 1500MHZ, it was the best I've ever had, I.E, it seemed a lot smoother.
My rule of thumb is to keep NB/HT within a 1.4GHZ range of the core clock.
I've been messing round with IBT maximum passes, I've managed to get my RAM to 8-8-8-24-1T at 1666MHZ 20 IBT passes stable at maximum. I'm looking forward to the Prime Blend (This is with my CPU at 4125MHZ)

Martini1991. its gaming stable.. just worryed running prime for hours because the temps shoot up 57c+

i had to put the cpu-nb to stock to drop the temps alittle

It's been fun and games for me aswell guys! :(

Was running prime blend stable for 12+ hours with the original BIOS - 0405 on my mainboard but decided to upgrade to 1005 (in preperation for Thuban as thats what its for) - since which my overclock went poopookaka (yes technical term).

Previously was ok on 224x17=[email protected] 2400NB/2400HT on AUTO volts. - Prime stable for over 12 hours.
Now I've had to upp volts to 1.45v and running 2200/2200 on AUTO volts. :( - prime passes ok for 8 hours but buggies when trying to get past 12hours.

Lesson learnt - don't fix it if it ain't broke! :)

any prizes bigwayne? bit of amd advertisin there lol :>

Been trying my Oc-ing on both old and new BIOS's with the same install of Win7 from day one. don't think overdrive made a difference tbh :)

Anyone else found AMD overdrive to be causing stability issues? I have all sorts running when I prime test mine - about 4 sessions of CPU-Z, HWMonitor, Messenger, Prime95, Asus PC Probe not to mention all the web browsing I do inbetween - I feel this would MAX out a system for FULL 24/7 stability. Just running prime95 doesn't get me to my CPU'#s hottest temp - firing up a browser whilst running it usually does though!

I'm no fan of AOD; I find its stability test to be laughable, and its interface to be unreasonably sluggish, and it's voltage readings to be plain wrong :(

Oh, and it says my motherboard is 20 degrees below zero kelvin... /headscratch
