I've just published our Overclocked look at Sapphire's 6970 and 6950 versus overclocked 570 and 5870 OC.

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/revie...5870-all-overclocked-review-introduction.html

This is the follow up to our launch article which isn't listed on the opening post here: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/revie...n-6950-graphics-card-review-introduction.html
No offense, first with the previous article which involve reviewing Crossfire 6970 vs SLI GTX580, it gave one of our members the false impression that Crossfire 6970 scale better on SLI GTX580 because of using F1 2010 as test example, which the game itself is one of the best 69xx scaling game, and lead the misinformed member to spreading the "gospel" here of 6970 Crossfire being faster than GTX580 SLI.

Now with an article that compare overclock, which the 6970 is overclocked to 950MHz (near the highest OC that 6970 would do at the moment) comparing to GTX570 that's only overclocked to lowly 800Mhz (when it is known that almost all of them would clock to 850MHz-900MHz easily), the overclock vs overclock review and conclusion couldn't be more misinformed to the readers by claiming that overclock for 6970 is on par with overclock for GTX570. Don't think you can claim that until you get some hard results that 6970 would overclock by 16%-23% like the GTX570 can :o

yeah I just tried an express uninstall of all ATI software, ran Driver Sweeper and deleted all ATI traces and just for good measure I uninstalled the device and deleted drivers from device manager. Rebooted, it was detected as standard VGA controller, installed 10.12 drivers, rebooted and same problem - like 15 FPS in BFBC2 and black ops :(

I did wonder if it was a power issue, as I didnt have a 8-pin power adapter with my PSU, so used the existing 6-pin and 2 molex connected to the 8-pin adapter. Its a 620w Enermax PSU which I would have thought would be ample for this? Also, if it wasnt drawing enough power, wouldnt it just carp out and BSOD?

Gotta go to work now (boooo), but I thought maybe re-seating it and the power connectors tonight, other than that Im a bit stuck :(

Well my 6970 has been delayed until probably after christmas due to DPD not delivering to scotland. Im pretty tired of the fan boys on here making out that ive been stupid to buy this. Got 2 more 24" monitors coming so sold my 5870 and the extra memory will make a big difference surely. I cant wait for eyefinity gaming!

Thinking about getting a 6950,Does anyone know if it will fit into a cooler master storm scout case?

The manual states 10.5" cards max.

Thanks.

Your using the preview drivers & they dont work, you need the standard 10.12's or the 10.12a's, go to guru3d driver download section and choose the non preview ones.

i had the same thing really did my nut for a while,

Nice one

hmmm interesting - I will give that a try, thanks

Do I need to change anything in the overdrive section once installed? I saw a Power adjustment slider, shouldnt need to worry about that right? The clocks were if I can remember rightly:

880 clock (before the driver update this morning these were 780??)
1345 (or something) mem

I've been playing a bit with my card, although if i oc it to 930 leaving ramm without oc bc2 hangs up after 10min gameplay, even i have increased power control to +20%, but 3dmark and heaven passes without any issues. Kinda disappointed with the loudness, my 4850cf setup was quiter. But I can't compare these two setups, as new 6970 eats everything what i play, bc everything on high 8x aa and 16xaf and i use SSAA on qualite settings. I think some thing will definitely be fixed with upcoming drivers. So far happy with it.

I just left it all on default from the install and i got the same stock bench numbers that gibbo fired out, so it appears you dont need to touch it.

However its up to you, but after reading a few review sites it appears it does little to move that bar, maybe not a 100% working driver pack for the cards??? Roll on 11.1's

Good review, nice to see the most important "min fps" in the tables ;)
Power and temp's would be a nice addition and I would question them all getting 9/10 for design when ATI has blocked 40% of the cooler exhaust with a DVI connector, making them hotter and noisier than they needed to be !

I think they screwed up the cooler period. You heard about the power connector filing fiasco?

Review up for Eyefinity by WSGF, although the selection of games tested is poor http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/AMD_Radeon_6970_6950_-_Featured_Review

The actual results are quite well odd as well. The HD6970 eyefinity performance is barely better than HD6870. That doesn't really makes sense when we have seen HD6970CF really shine at 2560x1600 (techreport or tomshardware have some good CF benchmarks) whilst HD6870 CF falters due to a lack of memory.

Something isn't quite right as we should see eyefinity being the major strength of the HD69xx series.

No, I have a 4870 1Gb card at the moment. I was hoping to sell that for £80. (OCUK sell the lesser 4850 512Mb for £80, so I figure I would easily get this price for a quicker card).

Then, buy a new 6970 2Gb. £280 - £80 = £200.

:)

I can not see you selling a 4870 1GB for £80, I sold my Sapphire 4850x2 2GB last week and only got £75.

Likely driver issues and sync issues, early drivers.
Just played Bc2 for a few rounds, gpu usage is 50% on one card, which means the setup isnt fully utilized.
game is smooth tho still at 5760x1080.

My 6850 crossfire did give me more fps, so drivers I assume will improve the 6900 series a bit.

here is small comparison for me

stock 6950x2 Powercolor. 800/1250mhz
4.3ghz copy i7 950
drivrutin 12.10a

6950x2 heaven 2.1

I did not ?

For me ATI/AMD screwed up their 6950 market potential by making it a 10.8" card instead of a 9.5" with a nice cooler, price it at £199 and they would have been sold out by now ;)
