!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

btw, im hoping it is the patch. Do you know if steam downloads it automatically? i would like to use the rageconfig thing and all too, and if it is the update causing my problems, would you recommend blocking steam from using the net?

Well you can tell steam to never check for updates and install from disc.

Though why exactly you would avoid using a patch which fixed things for everyone because you want to use a config is beyond me. I'm still using the 8gb rageconfig thing (I'm not even sure if its doing anything tbh) and its been working fine.

im just trying to play the game man, paid 25 for it, so anyway i can use it without that problem would be good. Sorry im such a noob, will look for that never update thing.. maybe when update 4 is here and fixed the problem, i'll update..
just bad luck i suppose when i have everything which should make the game good..
This time, since most Ati seems to work perfectly after new drivers, i can only blame the developers.. sorry

And i want to use it because if my problem IS the update, then i would have no choice but to use the config file to get the most out of the game without the update

I can easily ignore the poor visuals that creep up from time to time but what I, and I think most people are disappointed with is how little player progression these is within the game. The game is missing that element that allows you to make the game personal, yes/no decisions, customise skills/talents or even a simple levelling system. The impression I got from the game trailers and reviews etc was that this game would encompass RPG aspects and not just be a simple open-world FPS - but then again this may just be my impression and I've judged it all wrong.

The extent to which this game makes it personal to the player is the 'clothing' selection in Wellspring where you choose either an engineer, soldier or trader, and even then I cannot for the life of me tell how the suit I picked has influenced my game. From there on in, it really is just a 'speak to this guy and he'll tell you to kill these things'

The game has grown on me since my first scaving review but it's still not what I expected it to be.

Wow, the ending was... abrupt. I thought I was just opening a door to another area - I had no idea I'd just finished the final battle. Wasn't much of a challenge to finish on; playing on nightmare I never needed to use bandages in that section (I'm pretty decent at FPS games but I'm not *that* good). This game really needed an epic boss fight to finish.

The last game I played before this one was Hard Reset. Despite the fact that they are both FPS shooters, they couldn't be more different:

Hard reset was developed specifically for the PC, whereas Rage has clearly been tuned to match the hardware capabilities of the consoles (yet hard reset still runs at a solid 60fps on a single GPU at 2560*1600). Hard reset has beautiful high-res textures throughout, and finishes with one of the most epic boss fights of any game. Rage... doesn't. Hard reset was created by a small independent team in under 2yrs, whereas Rage has been in development at id for over six years.

Certainly Rage is a lot more ambitious and has a bigger scope... Hard Reset is a straightforward linear shooter, but IMO the combat sections are also more enjoyable than Rage (although I admit that the actual combat sections of Rage were fun, if a little too straightforward and repetitive).

Anyway, I enjoyed the game despite the early teething troubles. I can't help but feel that it was a bit of a letdown though - I had such high expectations.

Not really an iD game style there, but since Bethesda was involved, that is a really good argument..
I mean, Bethesda normally does rpg games and all, so what made them choose Rage?? I think money making comes into thought.. It makes you think, what the hell did they actually do to the game? Just think, oh we're rich, buy iD? holy crap we'll be billionaires, have gaming legends in our company!! we'll rule the gaming world!!
Maybe if they did intertwine, it could have been incredible.. but Bethesda, i ask again, what the hell did you do?

He has a point. Carmack used to be at the cutting edge of PC gaming...no he is realising this empty shell of a game that looks like:

i'm not all about graphics, but that is seriously lazy work right there.

All of the above games have low res textures somewhere in them if you look for them. They also all have object pop in as well as texture pop in. They all re use in game assets and texture tiles.

The Borderlands items on the shelves including the shelves and all the other objects on them were re used all over the same map and in the room were I took the picture they appeared 3 times.

Almost everything in Rage is unique, almost nothing is repeated or reused and it does all this for less processing power than all of the other games above.

I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!! full re-install, drivers, and game without update... and its still the ****ing same!! jesus christ allah buddha.. **** me, what a **** up... can i sell the game somewhere?

DONT you dare buy this crap.. unless you like taking odds.. maybe you'll be good, MAYBE you'll get my problem.. wait 4 - 8 months, and buy the game.. i'm shelving this disappointment for maybe 4 - 10 moths till i can actually play it

Like i said before, its NOT an amd/ati problem, as that was fixed with last drivers..
not me though.. what a waste of seriously hard earned cash.. maybe pirating is the way to go now since demo's dont exist

Your profile says your 24 years old. I'm not sure I believe that.

Lol, yeah the lack of any sort of boss fight was very disappointing. The whole 'last stand' you could just sit around with 2 Sentries and your (effectively) infinite ammo Authority Pulse Minigun and gun everything down without any real difficulty. It really needed some sort of tie in with 'General Cross', the guy they kept mentioning who set his ark to release earlier so he could take over the world.

sorry oderoftheflame, excuse me for being pee'd off that i try everything that was supposed to 'fix' the game, has done nothing at all..
i paid good money for something i thought would have eventually worked.. but nope, after graphics driver update, game update, it still gives crap.. how can i be calm to that?
may i ask you, if you wasted money, would you not act the same?

edit: i think thats the last time i shall ever pre-order a game

Try rolling back your drivers, I have heard peeps commenting that the game runs well with 11.6!

oh dear !!! well i'm deffo glad that i havent brought this, lets hope that DOOM 4 isn't as bad as this.

we were promised a hell of a lot before this game came out, but reading all of this, plus a few reviews, it seems very dissapointing....

i dont mind the graphics faults etc, because these will be fixed in the next few months, when the game is much cheaper on Steam, i'm far more concerned about :- repetative, tedious, boring, too similar to other games etc etc.

nope, same although with slower framerates.. so guess i should give up on this game till patch 7 or 11? or something like that?..
Disappointed iD, used to love you guys

Sorry it didn't work for you.

I have removed the key comment as selling outside the Members Market is not allowed.;)

+ Next week new Ati drivers and a new Rage patch are being released. So sit tight like allot of us are and see if the patch fixes all the issues.

NO way, £16 is far too much, and by patch 7 or 11 this game will be history.
