!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

*shrug* no point trying to fix what isn't broken I guess. Texture pop-in sorts itself out quite quickly for me and other than the odd low res texture everything goes fine.

Just completed it in total 17hours not bad for a mostly single player content normally FPS last you about 6/7 hours, all in all a good'ish game mini games are fun, I must have missed a set of races somewhere as I didnt get the achivement for it.

BTW Rubbish ending after 16/17 hours of play I wanted a slightly better ending then that.

I'm a little unsure about the achievements. I was in the Northern Sewers (didn't even know they existed on my first playthrough) and there are so many opportunities to blow up a group of mutants with RC cars for the achievement. Killed 4 with 1 explosion didn't get the achievement ><

Note this comment:

"We have a bicubic-upsample+detail texture option for the next PC patch that will help alleviate the blurry textures in Rage."

This won't do dick to the pixel density of real information in the diffuse stage all it will do is make the texture maps a bit sharper and fill in some of the blurry stuff with what is essentially pixel "noise" to try and mask how low res the original texture is.

He has a point. Carmack used to be at the cutting edge of PC gaming...no he is realising this empty shell of a game that looks like:

Admittedly at first glance I can see why people would say that, but its grossly ignorant of the underlying technology and the barriers that have been broken with the engine to write Carmack off in this way.

Just tried this guys fix here.

Adding the cache folder and config has made a huge difference and popping textures have mostly gone!

I knew that!:o:p

Not sure why people persist with configs that have things like:

set com_videoRam 1024
com_maxfps

and several other cvars in them, none of which exist in RAGE at all, half the cvars I've seen in configs people are posting don't even do anything other than the vt_* ones.

I believe there's a few teething problems with achievements atm. I came first in all the races and even received the pop up letting me know I earned the achievement, yet when I load up my achievement list it's greyed out.

Not fussed though I've never played for achievements or the like.

I'm completely nonplussed with achievements these days, atleast back along they were kinda meaningful i.e. in COD4 they had stuff like an achievement for killing a guy, picking up his dropped weapon and then killing him again on respawn with his own weapon, now you get them just for participating which cheapens the whole thing :(

Doesn't for me. I look one way, textures pop. Look another way, then look back to the first and they pop back again - every frickin time.

Personally i think if any other studio released this game people would be tearing it to shreds! That they send you through a level and then an hour later ask you to go back through the same level backwards as part of the main quest would not go without considerable criticism with most games.

errmmm didn't the original Halo do that?

So do lots of other games.

Yeah lots of games do it, and the map does change a bit, different enemy spawns, slightly different route and gives you a chance to open up some areas previously sealed, not really a big deal, infact theres quite a few side missions that people seem to miss where you can revist main mission levels again and do them in slightly different order/open up areas that were previously not accessable - tho unfortunatly not to the degree I'd have liked.

I may have given the impression that i dislike the game, but i have to say that this is not the case, i have enjoyed it as a shooter. I have just been greatly frustrated by some of the elements which imo only need changing slightly to elevate this game to approaching classic status tbh.

As a shooter it is great and i suppose that you could view anything else as extra, as it offers more than you get in most shooters nowadays, but even the addition of a simple levelling system, or something along those lines would greatly improve the game imo. It would certainly give you more of an incentive to do the side missions. Also if the world were more interactive and there were less invisible barriers or locked doors it would relieve some the feelings of restriction which i find i have when playing.
Also, and this is just me, i am all about story in games and i think if there were a little more care taken over the story in terms of characters(none are memorable, or even seem to be important) and if it were maybe a bit more cinematic then i would probably love this game.

Overall it is a good game, but i find myself incredibly frustrated that with not much more work(or finesse?) it could, and probably should have been spectacular
