Wenger thread

If everybody done that then I'd see no problem with club threads. I can't see everybody sticking to that though. After a while, around 5pm on a Saturday we'd have Arsenal fans discussing their match in the Arsenal thread, Liverpool fans discussing their match in the Liverpool thread and so on.

correct, it just wouldn't work

correct, it just wouldn't work

I see both sides to the argument.

Make it clear that the weekend threads are for match discussions if you so wish and club threads for club related things; (transfers and gossip should go in the transfer thread but people get the 'back on topic' comments when people discuss transfers and players fitting systems, so maybe a more in depth talk about certain targets)

I thought the other Wenger thread was quite interesting actually and there were some good discussions going on in there.

It's just the same as what goes on in the "MANAGER has been fired!" threads isn't it? except Wenger hasn't actually been fired yet... lol

No club threads is why I don't bother posting in here. It's a football forum in which we basically have a matchday thread and a transfer thread, anything else gets dumped into one of those. What's the point of the subforum, may as well leave it as part of the Sports forum! Go onto somewhere like Pistonheads or SA and they have club threads that work out fine, OCUK is just so backwards!

I've still yet to see one good reason why people want club threads, other than the fact that they apparently have some fear of posting new threads about whatever it is they actually want to talk about.

I think we should trial official club threads then and if the forum suffers then remove them. A lot of new folk are here now and it might be different.

If you take a look at the join dates of the posters in here then you'll notice that of them the majority actually joined before the rule was introduced - there's about 4 or 5 people who joined after 2007 out of the 22 posters (including me).

That's not to say that there aren't quite a few new members but I don't know if it's a big enough proportion to suggest that anything would have changed in regard to how people use threads.

I don't want to have to go to Football365 as it's mostly full of morons but that works fine with official threads.

People need to get in the habit of opening new threads for different matters, leaving the small stuff in the official threads and mods not closing threads needlessly left right and centre cutting conversation short.

+ RTM any nobheads who try to be funny in other club threads.

How long do you think it would last that people would open new threads for "different" matters? How do you define what is a small matter and what is significant enough to merit its own separate thread? What happens if a moderator determines that the thread isn't significant enough to merit its own thread and closes it or merges it - will there be complaints?

I've still yet to see one good reason why people want club threads, other than the fact that they apparently have some fear of posting new threads about whatever it is they actually want to talk about.

The Fear™ - that worry you might start a new thread and no-one replies, leaving it to die alone and unloved under the weight of its sorrow.

I assume the rule was brought in to stop Sports Arena being littered with "Official *Insert club name here* threads". Now that Football has it's own forum this isn't an issue.

Personally I think the mods could just leave this section alone apart from closing duplicate threads. Only pop in to nuke the occasional troll which will no doubt be RTM'd.

Keep away from official threads.

I know it may have been mentioned already but it would just fragment up a (mainly) great little community we have going on here. I enjoy the banter between people and debating points though admittedly weekend threads could be renamed Liverpool/United weekend thread, but still it's better that then everyone hiding in their own little area and not mixing.

Keep things as they are!

Keep things as they are then but don't lock threads where there is an existing and interesting conversation going. (The Wenger thread) That isn't helping anyone.

So what if it turns into an Arsenal thread. As long as it's interesting then so be it.

What I mean is relax it. They aren't harming anybody and at least people are talking.

It seems you're asking for club threads in all but name (by hook or by crook...) and for moderators to not really come in here. While I believe that you tend to get more by asking than just waiting for it to come to you I don't think it's entirely a realistic proposition - the Football Stadium has lots of good posters and as far as I'm concerned I'm grateful for that but it is not without issues of contention and does require active moderation to keep it running relatively smoothly.

Please do keep RTMing issues as that's part of what helps with the moderation but I would say that just because you don't always see the problem posts doesn't mean that they weren't there. I would however ask that you don't simply RTM just because you disagree with someone or vice versa - if they're breaking the rules or a post is in the wrong section etc then that's a good use for the function - it's not meant to be for sniping at people you disagree with though.

Just for the record here are the main reasons they are not allowed

They stifle discussion
They create sub groups of members
They attract trolls
They lead to others accusing non supporters of trolling
They lead to reduced numbers of threads and topics being lost
Supporters of smaller clubs feel left out
The threads become fragmented where successive posts often are nothing to do with each other
They are near impossible to moderate because they are hard to follow

all these happened when we had them and improved after they were got rid of

Also, it's all very well saying "Well, relax the rules", but every time a thread starts being about a club and not a general topic, you get opposing fans moaning that it's unfair.
