Wenger thread

I don't think other threads will suffer really.

I do because rather than talk about games in the usual weekend thread you'll have supporters turn to the individual club threads to argue/discuss matters and come transfer windows people will talk about their own clubs transfer news in their own clubs thread again rather than use a generic one.

If I want to talk specifics concerning Man Utd or one of ours players I'll do such at a United forum I like the fact that I can come here and discuss things about football as a whole without everything solely being about the club I support

You don't have to post in the club threads, it's not an obligation. I think the choice would be nice

that's the point though, we tried it, the same folks went in the same threads and the place stagnated, it's not as if it the rule was plucked out of thin air, the change was significant after they went

There's plenty of small things I'd like to discuss about Arsenal, with Arsenal fans, that just isn't appropriate for other threads so I just end up not bothering.
You know what I do when I want to talk about Arsenal stuff, with only Arsenal fans though? I go on Arsenal sites.

I much prefer this place as an informal collection of various fanbases, who can actually discuss all sorts of topics. Rather than a bunch of little cliques who only venture out of their own threads to troll the opposition, or to bun fight every weekend (this already happens I know).

Don't have official club threads then as a rule but for example the Wenger thread, just leave it. Conversation was flowing but now it's dead.

Don't be so strict if topics go off in a different direction sometimes.

I think this is the best solution. Only lock something if it is obviously being used as a club thread.

It's a difficult one. Flowing conversation is great but official or not, that had become an Arsenal thread. It was no longer discussing Wenger getting the sack and was just a thread for general Arsenal talk.

It's no different from the club threads we had before. They were (generally) fine in isolation but the argument against them wasn't the content of those threads but the effect they had on the forum as a whole. Any Arsenal news would have ended up being discussed in that thread which is part of the reason why club threads were banned.

I'm yet to find an Arsenal forum that isn't mostly filled with total retards

Did the forum suffer because we had that Arsenal thread? Didn't seem like it did to me, but other people will have a better idea than me.

It's not something that I particularly noticed (I wasn't against club threads when we had them either though) but that's part of the argument against them.

I only ever skimmed over the thread but just looking over the last couple of pages and most of the talk is on transfers. Shouldn't that be in the transfer thread? As I said, had any Arsenal news broke it would have been discussed in that thread too. Like Weebull's asked, what's the need to discuss everything in one thread regardless of the detriment it might do to the rest of the forum?

Whether you think club threads are ok or not, that had become an Arsenal thread and was being used to discuss all things Arsenal and would be continued to be used to discuss any other Arsenal topic that popped up.

I dunno, I post on another forum that does have club threads and it works well, however there are more posters there so I suppose that allows for the club thread hermits with enough people left over to discuss the other stuff, I can see how that could become a problem here with fewer posters I suppose

The question you've got to ask yourself is do you want to have one thread to discuss everything Arsenal related, one thread for everything Liverpool related and so on because that's what will happen.

As I've said before, I don't mind club threads for small subjects (signing a new shirt sponsor etc) but as we found out before, they get used to discuss everything related to that club, no matter how big and designated transfer or match day threads get ignored.

I think we should trial official club threads then and if the forum suffers then remove them. A lot of new folk are here now and it might be different.

I don't want to have to go to Football365 as it's mostly full of morons but that works fine with official threads.

People need to get in the habit of opening new threads for different matters, leaving the small stuff in the official threads and mods not closing threads needlessly left right and centre cutting conversation short.

+ RTM any nobheads who try to be funny in other club threads.

Whether Rotty and the other Dons would be open to giving it another go, I'm not sure but when we had them before this simply didn't happen and the Wenger/Arsenal thread suggests it won't happen now either.

I'd post boring Arsenal related stuff that only Arsenal fans care about in the Arsenal thread and opinions on every other club/game/league etc. in other threads.

If everybody done that then I'd see no problem with club threads. I can't see everybody sticking to that though. After a while, around 5pm on a Saturday we'd have Arsenal fans discussing their match in the Arsenal thread, Liverpool fans discussing their match in the Liverpool thread and so on.
