I agree with Tummy, it's fine having one thread for little things that are only going to get a few replies, then individual threads for bigger stuff like Tevez/Terry etc.
but that is never the way it would work in practice though

I don't think other threads will suffer really.

I do because rather than talk about games in the usual weekend thread you'll have supporters turn to the individual club threads to argue/discuss matters and come transfer windows people will talk about their own clubs transfer news in their own clubs thread again rather than use a generic one.
If I want to talk specifics concerning Man Utd or one of ours players I'll do such at a United forum I like the fact that I can come here and discuss things about football as a whole without everything solely being about the club I support
You don't have to post in the club threads, it's not an obligation. I think the choice would be nice
You know what I do when I want to talk about Arsenal stuff, with only Arsenal fans though? I go on Arsenal sites. There's plenty of small things I'd like to discuss about Arsenal, with Arsenal fans, that just isn't appropriate for other threads so I just end up not bothering.
Don't have official club threads then as a rule but for example the Wenger thread, just leave it. Conversation was flowing but now it's dead.
Don't be so strict if topics go off in a different direction sometimes.

I much prefer this place as an informal collection of various fanbases, who can actually discuss all sorts of topics. Rather than a bunch of little cliques who only venture out of their own threads to troll the opposition, or to bun fight every weekend (this already happens I know).
It's a difficult one. Flowing conversation is great but official or not, that had become an Arsenal thread. It was no longer discussing Wenger getting the sack and was just a thread for general Arsenal talk.
It's no different from the club threads we had before. They were (generally) fine in isolation but the argument against them wasn't the content of those threads but the effect they had on the forum as a whole. Any Arsenal news would have ended up being discussed in that thread which is part of the reason why club threads were banned.
Did the forum suffer because of that Arsenal thread? Didn't seem like it did to me, but other people will have a better idea than me.

People need to get in the habit of opening new threads for different matters, leaving the small stuff in the official threads.
