The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

Do we know the final GPU clocks yet for GK104? Most of what I have read indicates 700-800MHz, which seems very low for 28nm. 800MHz is not even high for the old 40nm process, where even my old GTX480 could exceed that.

It seems likely that GK104 will have lower clocks, lower memory bandwidth, plus lower transistor counts, yet it will still compete favorably against the 7970. This means NVidia's core architecture is likely superior to Tahiti's. Perhaps GCN has scaling limitations, because AMD's own 7870 comes close to the 7900 series when overclocked, even with significantly less shaders and memory bandwidth.

We will find out soon.

This thread may raise a few eyebrows....

So about £420 then... Shucks. I'm not buying one till prices come down. On the bright side it does sound a little cheaper than the 7970 if the performance is indeed better.

£420 would be the straight conversion plus vat but it will be higher at launch, it is an identical USD price to the 7970 so no reason to expect launch prices any different to 7970 unless AMD wades in with a cut to the 7970 which is entirely plausible.

Well, if it does outpace the 7970 by about 20-25% at just over £400, that would hopefully move the prices of the 7950/7970 down a chunk.

But I was hoping to go Nvidia this round, and would have happily paid around £600 for two of these, but not £800 or so.

The 680 smacks of a mid-range part that is clocked to within an inch of its life to compete with the 7970 to me.

I might be wrong.

I know what you are saying and hope this is not the case. I would hate to get the new card and only see an additional OC of 2-5%, because the card is already at its peak.

This has me concerned, purely on the basis of price. We all know the 7970/50 are great clockers and at the £400+ price this is justifiable, but if the 680 has no OC headroom and comes in at £400+......

Of course, we are still only going on rumours and untill there is some "Hard Facts" we can only speculate.

Hope there are some non reference designs right away like that Asus DirectCU II style. Dont want a noisy card (i've just come from bispoke watercooling), which would mean even more waiting with no gfx card...

I've seen everything there is to see in regards to presentations etc. My stock arrives beginning of next week, more than enough to go round too. :)

However I can't say anything that breaches NDA.

You want me to come clean your office today Gibbo? I don't mind doing it for free and you can pay me in another way....nudge nudge wink wink say no more. :D
