Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Sorry I missed that bit. That explains it then :D

Did you not see I had brand new disks & pads all round? Then disks were upgraded from the standard Renault ones + Ferodo DS2500 pads those alone start adding the £'s up.

The cambelt, aux etc came to £455.00 didn't think that was too bad as Renault dealers were quoting £1000!

Im looking to buy one of these soon, a 230, sub 50k miles , spending about £8k anything I should look out for? Do you like it so far?

I'm not that impressed so far coming from a 10 year old Octavia vRS and it's cost me a bit in my short ownership.

  • Leaks, check the carpets and especially the little storage compartments in the front of the car, also check the boot. To resolve you generally have to strip the interior as there is foam under the carpet, and once wet will not dry out... due to the design. It's a biggish job, someone quoted 8 hours to do yourself on the Megane forums, but Renault will quote 3-4 hours. Ideally you need to hang the carpet / foam out for a few days. It's pretty common too... Look for a rusty steering column (look up underneath the pedals and rusty handbrake metal that goes into the middle console).
  • Window regulators are a VERY common fault, they die, normally with the window stuck down. They cost £350 fitted by Renault, but you can normally get some money off that. I think you can claim some of it back, I haven't had to do it yet, as both of mine were replaced before I bought it.
  • All electrics work, and I mean ALL. I had an issue with one of my xenon lights, ended up costing me nearly £700 to fix. OK this was main dealer prices, but no other garage would touch it and I rung around, trust me.
  • Check steering, it's very common to get a click/random sound when turning the wheel- it's not meant to do it
  • General quality of the interior - The plastics are very soft and can get pretty marked up
  • Brakes - Can cost around £500 for the set if you stick to OEM, not a crazy amount but not cheap
  • Tyres - £150 a corner for anything decent
  • Check the big cambelt service has been done, it's fairly costly £500 or so from an independent- not sure on main dealer prices
  • MPG - Awful, to be fair I do shortish trips, but I average around 22MPG, this is normal. 30MPG on a run.
  • Pretty much all of them will have a lot of stone chips just before the rear wheels, this is due to the 235 profile tyres kicking up crap onto the bodywork- the R26 has 235/40/18s where as the standard 225 is 225/40/18.
  • They don't come with a spare wheel by standard, this means your boot WILL be collapsed in one form or another. The design is awful- but it's pretty hilarious that they were happy to sell the car as is. A lot of people reported this from new.
  • It's common for the 1st gear to "pop" out if you put any power down when changing from 1st to 2nd, however it shouldn't pop out of gear in any other gear. So make sure to give it some beans and let off without changing gear to make sure it doesn't pop out. Can indicate a faulty box.
  • The clutch is VERY high and the accelerator responds pretty quickly- personally I find it very difficult to change smoothly in it
  • The gear stick throw is comical, so make sure you are warmed up before driving
  • The accelerator pedal has two stages/resistances, almost a click 80% of the way in, this disengages the cruise control/speed limiter, it's a bit strange when you first feel it
  • My brake pedal squeaks really badly, and my gear stick squeaks a bit when the box is hot

There are probably more bits and pieces.

It's obviously great to drive, very responsive and precise feedback- would I buy another one? No, I think I'm done with French cars (probably the wrong thread for that attitude!).

It reminds me a little of my old 205 mi16 if I'm honest... which can't be a bad thing. Just be prepared to pony up when one of the common faults appears.

Did you go for Brembo HCs?

What discs did you put on the rear?

Mine needs a new set all round soon. Not sure if I should go for drilled oem discs and the oem pads, or HCs and DS2500s...

Went out for an epic drive today in my 225 around Kirkby Lonsdale, Sedbergh and Hawes. The B6255 from Hawes to Ingleton is quite possibly the best road I've ever driven on. Really smooth surfaces, fast sweeping bends with dips, rises and places where the road thinned a little through small bridges. There's plenty of visibility of the road ahead so you can plan lines through bends and there were no cameras or police to be seen! Those of you who are up North should check the road out, I can guarantee you'll love it!

I absolutely loved the drive as it was the first proper drive of the car I've had since I bought it. It's really planted in the corners and pulls like a train in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. Done over 170 miles in total today. The car goes from an epic chuckable country road blaster to a relaxed motorway cruiser. Had a chance to test out my cruise control on the M6 too, didn't think I was going to like it but I did! :)

Took a cheeky picture while I stopped to stretch my legs too. Just thought I'd share my adventure with you all! :D

Mates 182 has started flashing the CEL. Sounds like its running on 3cylinders.

Are coil packs common on these?

I never had trouble with my coil pack when I had my 172, it was the leads! Also check the leads aren't being trapped under the inlet manifold as I've read that can cause issues. There's a groove on the underside where the leads should go. Could also be lambda sensor related.

What spark plugs is he using? Though I'd say this is less likely the cause of running on 3!

Thanks for te reply. Only had a quick look in the dark tonight so didn't look in detail.

It seems some have coil on plugs ?

One quick check is to unplug each injector in turn to check they're all working (engine note change should be obvious that you've unplugged a working injector!)

Reason I've kept my RSTuner, rather than flogging it on, is purely for reading error codes!

Sold mine today for £3200 on 79k miles.

Paid £3,300 for it 2 years ago but have only done 5k miles and spent a lot of money on it. (springs / re-map / wheels / tyres / mats / stereo / exhaust)

Gonna miss it but barely use it and plan on moving out of home into London soon.

I just saw it on PH as I was looking to see how much I can get for mine.

I need to seriously start thinking about selling mine in the next 6 weeks as I leave on 19th March. It needs to be gone before then. It's in a slightly sorry state right now though, I need to switch out the knackered KTR coilovers for the replacement shocks and standard springs I have, sort out the airbag light, service is due in 2k miles so will do that before I sell it as well. I need to sort the splitter out as it's hanging off slightly, plus I need to tax it by the end of this month!

Oh, I also need to take off the induction kit and put the standard thing back on.

I just can't be bothered to sort it all out though!

It's on 82k miles, I'm only expecting about £2,400 due to a couple of door dings and the Turinis needing a refurb. Oh, and I think I'm the 5th or 6th owner..........and it's an import model, one of the ones without an alarm, even though it was first registered in the UK. Very odd.

What you bumming around in at the minute then? Or is it pedal power?

A combination of begging lifts, borrowing my mums car and pedal power.

Clio I went to see on Saturday was a complete shed so have decided not to bother for now. Wait till I have the money to buy a nice one.

Most people who've done any mods split the mods and flog them off separately. That's what the bloke I bought my Trophy spoiler from was doing, sold Turinis, Recaros, refurbed steering wheel etc separately.
