a few years ago I would have thought money would make me happy, in fact I was so chuffed when i had 300 quid in my back pocket.

Now over the past 5 years I have been fortunate to have earned a nice amount and have put by a decent amount of cash.

The feeling of wanting money has kind of gone, but am I happier? I actually don't think I am that much happier, comfortable yes, but now how I thought I would be. Its easy to take money for granted too.

I'd be a lot happier and warmer with a belly full of mead.

but seriously, yea id be happier if i didn't have to worry about money. not saying id be the happiest person alive but the feeling of not worrying about paying bills and being able to do what i want each day must be great

Money is a means to an end. It is falsely interpreted as happiness, when in reality it simply removes the day-to-day stresses we all go through. :)

Money bought my Car, which has given me plenty of hapiness, however there are plenty of free things which have made me happy, entirely depends what you make of it.

Problem is happiness is not a constant state, it is relative, money can reach it but money can not sustain it; it can and does provide pillars of support, such as safety and thus peace of mind, good nutrition and habitat so physically the body is healthy and balanced and mind is at ease, to occasional achieve bursts of happiness. But once again it's relative, once such state is achieved it becomes bare minimum that we require for our normal state.

Thank you thank you THANK YOU.

Very well put, it can buy short-term solutions but not long-term. That has to come from inside of you.

This is nonsense. It can buy long-term solutions for you, your family and your friends if your wealth stretches that far.

'Good' people can also earn tremendous amounts of money and their drive will often times come from 'inside them'.

As an aside - and I haven't read the thread properly so sorry about that - the people who say that money can't buy happiness are the people who are not and will never be in a position to make an objective call on the situation.

When you think about it, money is essentially a universal barter/trade facilitator that can be used to acquire many things, and not just physical items either so it is more than just the ability to surround oneself with luxuries. A large amount of money SHOULD make most people happy because enough of it lets you trade for most of the things you want.

As someone else pointed out, if money isn't contributing towards people's happiness, then they probably aren't channelling it the right way. It may not necessarily make an unhappy person (who say has a severe disability and has lost close family) happy but it should move people along the scale of happiness.

Being skint certainly brings unhappiness. Having enough money to pay for the freedoms I need to live my life the way I want to would certainly make me more happy than I am now.

Fine liqueur, hot HO's, fast super cars... high speed car chases... For weekend then recovery during week. Freedom is beautiful.
