HP Microserver+XPEnology

I can confirm that the synology apps work, streaming to a android device worked if fact it's all good but faster then my DS211j
by some margin.

Hi Deuse,
I currently have a DS211j and am thinking of moving to the N54L. My main gripe with the DS211j is the general sluggishness of the DSM GUI and slow verifying/repairing of RARs.

Would you mind maybe clarifying just how much faster the N54L is over the DS211j.

Thanks

Way faster. File transfers are faster about 90MB both ways. Streaming to my android devices with no problems.

I think you can find a DS211j vs N54L to help you.

Would adding a graphics card also help with transcoding?

To what? It's on my network and all my 1080p films play ok(no stutter) on my TV and mobile devices.
Try it first and if all ok you've saved money :)

Ok I got a VGA to RCA box coming and when it does I will try the nanoboot version. Will post when it's done or not :)

I did it with two and it went very smoothly (after I had a problem with a network cable). I don't use many add-ons, but those I have tried worked.

I was able to update to v3 (latest) with the usual method.

Some people have reported a slow down, but I haven't noticed any in particular. I don't have anything specifically to compare it with though.

Sadly, the WOL no longer works. I can do all the stuff to get the box checked etc, but it just ignores any request to wake. Shame, but that is the only casualty of the process.

Bloody warehouse can't find my Microserver at the moment :( Have everything downloaded, usb stick formatted etc just need my Microserver bah

Not good. Hope you get it very soon/

Yeah still looking turns out the seller shipped it via Collect+ not a problem what I didn't realise all of our returns come via Collect+ so each day have 5-10 pallets of stuff being returned and wouldnt you know it the warehouse is behind on that by several days.

Though they have said should have it by 4th August at the latest :(

Lets hope you get it soon :) more time to read about the bios (hacked)update ect.

Yeah me to it was a birthday present to myself as it was on the 28th but oh well.

Will look at the bios updates, not too worried about that to start with as wont be putting a drive in the top bay but might down the line

Is there any benefit to having an SSD in my Microserver if I'm going to use Xpenology?

I've got a 128GB SSD sat here ready but now I'm starting to think it won't actually be of any use with the OS loading from USB and running from the array.

Rather than being useful will the SSD instead just cause problems with the amount of space available for each of my 3TB drives? (I intend to use SHR for my 4 3TB drives)
