Haswell -E Core i7-5960X, 5930K, 5820K specifications

Exactly that, I can see the 5820 being very popular 6 cores at 4790 money give or take £10. it is all down to the boards and just how expensive the cheaper end ones are.

Agreed. I think the only thing that will effect sales of this chips over the 4790K will be the prices of DDR4. Either way the 5820K looks a decent choice for gamers.

DDR4 is dearer yes but not by as much as I expected it to be.

Cheapest quad channel DDR4 kit vs Cheapest High speed quad channel DDR3 kit.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C16 2400MHz Quad Channel Kit (BLS4K4G4D240FSA) £179.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB (4x4GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Quad Channel Kit (KHX24C11T3K4/16X) £149.99
Total : £329.98 (includes shipping : ).

The difference will all be in the motherboards as at the moment there are 4 under £200 ( even going as low as £139.99) and you can bet there wont be any X99 boards under that.

Thats actually not bad bru. I think I saw DDR4 kits going for £250 a few weeks back so this price is equivalent to DDR3 prices.

Edit: I was looking at 2666Mhz kits which seem to be a bit more expensive.

Still a decent enough price on the 2400Mhz.

Agreed on the X99 mobos at least for a good while anyway.

@ bru,

That 16GB DDR4 price is actually very decent. As long as the motherboards aren't extortionate, so far it potentially looks like X99 as a whole platform isn't going to be that badly priced. Although we haven't seen 5820K price yet :P Hopefully it's around £300.

plus for gaming only... you only need 8GB

DAMN IT............this looks like i'm switching to DDR4 and i've only just brought the stuff in my sig ...............i cant sell my CPU can i.... i flipping lapped and lidded it................now i'm really really fed up

that CPU isn't DDR 4 is it................ say yes ......... no it aint, damn it

this needs some thinking

In the official Press Release, ADATA Technology announced the upcoming release of their new overclocking DDR4 RAM modules that will be suitable for use by enthusiasts together with future family processors Intel Haswell-E and Intel X99 Express-based motherboards. The new modules will belong to the series XPG Z1, and compared with current DDR3 plates will have better performance with lower power consumption and correspondingly low heat.

According to data provided by ADATA, new modules will operate at a supply voltage of 1,2 V with CL 17-17-17 timings and maximum operating frequency to 2800 MHz. On the market will debut modules with a nominal capacity of 4, 8 and 16 GB, as well as a module and a set. Also, memory microchips used are carefully selected to be able to operate at higher frequencies.

Memory ADATA XPG Z1 DDR4 are 10-layer PCB with 2 oz copper triangle-shaped radiators with red accents and a carbon in the middle, where he painted the model and the manufacturer's logo. These memory modules are offered with a lifetime guarantee for quality.

Perhaps this is not the right place to ask this, but I am considering upgrading my 2500k system to x99 simply because I am not sure if my current system will bottleneck two 780ti's?

Also, whether for games or not, I am assuming that a x99 system should last me quite some time.

What do you guys reckon?

Thanks.

What resolution do you game at and is your 2500k overclocked?

An X99 system would last for a long time but your 2500k is hardly a pos.
There will be a performance difference in games but it will largely depend on your res.

I currently game at 2560x1600 with a second 1920x1200 screen (not for gaming except for fsx) beside it.

My 2500k is clocked to 4.2Ghz.

Thanks.

TBH I don't think it will prove to be a noticeable bottleneck as that's a pretty high res and you will be playing at max settings.

If you could increase the overclock by a few hundred MHz it wouldn't hurt though but I wouldn't be rushing out to get Haswell-E if most of what you do comprises of gaming.

From a quick google it looks like FSX is too old to use more than 4 cores and wildstar appears to be a bit buggy. I know nothing about this game but apparently if you disable core 0 for the game it will improve FPS.

You can see it here if you haven't already.

Doesn't look like it handles more cores too well but again I know very little about this title. Maybe someone with better knowledge about it can tell you.

Seems you are right that upgrading might not be the best move.

Either way, I really appreciate you taking the time to look it up for me.

Thank you very much :)

So which chip is looking like it'll be the buy then?
I was thinking the 5930K, but I see a lot of people saying the 5820K.
