1366 X58 Xeon 5650

my 5650 came today and will fit it tomorrow . hopefully ill be in 6 core heaven .

Good luck! I've bought another x5650 and this time got a Gigabyte ex58-ud5 for approx £90 all in, bargain! Just waiting for the cpu to show up and then fingers crossed I'll be using it with this gtx 970 I've got sitting here. *note to self, stop buying hardware like it's crack*

To be honest there seem to be more X58 boards that support the Xeons than don't. You're probably better off compiling a list of known unsupported boards.

Well I'm in a world of pain haha, mine refuses to post (ga-ex58-ud5), one stick of ram in the first white slot and everytime the bios stops with code b8 or b9 which I'm lead to believe is a memory issue. I've tried 4 different sticks in there but all give the identical error.
Do you think it'd be worth trying to get my hands on an I7 and doing a bios flash? I've no idea what bios is on there at the moment.

right only just fitted the chip and buyaka 6 core heaven . only@stock and idling@22 c .
im going to start clocking it after a well earned beer . combat fighter what volts you got on that chip .

I and a few others in this thread had the same issue. Like SupernovaUK, I had to do this before it would post:

I was basically having exactly the same trouble. I was only able to fix it by manually setting the CPU multiplier and the Bclk to a value that would allow the bclk to memory ratio get me to 1600Mhz... so in CPUZ on the Memory tab I can see the FSB : DRAM is being set by the motherboard to 2:10 which is how my RAM is now hitting 1600Mhz

Set your BLCK and Mutliplier so that the RAM is running as close to its rated speed as you can. At stock I couldn't even post and have the RAM running at 1600mhz, it only runs at the correct speed when I OC.

Cheers for the help mate but it never gets as far as the post screen so no access to the setup, I just see b8 or b9 on the motherboard display panel.

I am searching on *bay for a x5670, is there anything i should look out for?

What is it with american sellers and their stupidly priced postage of $157 dollars and $70 dollars to post at best a 50 gram CPU? and this *bay international shipping nonsense is really driving me mad, it takes so dam long to delivery. Every time i use it its taken over 2 weeks for delivery even if you pay for rapid delivery.

mwhahahaha it's nice that I spent nearly ten years over there and have friends in all the right places :D

I just get my mate to load the page.. Oh look ! free shipping ! it then costs me about £8 to get them sent over :D

What's hilarious is how games on Steam are often the same in $ as they are in £ so I just paypal him the funds and save about 30% pmsl :D

There are my everyday settings now for X5670 @ 4.4GHz

The only issue I have is that the overclock fails at boot so i have to do a double boot for it to continue. The overclock has been stable in every test so far.

Thanks Tribz, for my first overclock (x5650) I copied your settings in my P6TD BIOS but while saving realised you have the 5670. However, it booted to windows no problem with the chip idling at 40c. It crashes if I try to do an intel burn test but would like to know what to reduce from here to find a stable setting?

Edit: I dropped the multiplier to 20 from 22 (didn't think it went that high but the BIOS said it was at 22) then reran the burn test which didn't crash straight away. How about this?

Jarrastafari, if your on a 5650 I'd use the 20x multiplier instead of the 22x one.

These are my current settings for a 4.5GHz overclock on a 5670. Been fine for weeks now and I stopped having to do the double boot to get going, that sorted itself out for some reason.

anyone know if gigabyte x58a-ud3r rev 1 can run these xeon chips? I think some people got them running on a rev 2 not sure on the exact differences between revisions.

My 920 runs at 4.2GHz but still tempted to try one of these xeons out and seen if it make a difference in bf4.

Darn it. Bought one today for a Rampage II (got it for the princely sum of 80$ delivered to europe!)

I haven't checked with my current pc (which is currently sans CPU) if it has the latest bios.

Whats the chance of this working straightaway?

I get the impression that it won't run on the rev 1 as it looks like it only takes single QPI chips - going by the (incomplete) CPU compatibility list on the gigabyte website for both revs
