GTAV performance thread.

MAJOR DISCOVERY FOR STUTTER and SLI....

I thought I'd nailed it with regards smooth performance/ stutter with SLI and gsync. Turns out once you head north into the countryside, it's more prone to stutter than in the city. I was annoyed

HOWEVER......

Quite by accident I made a discovery today. I alt-tabbed out of the game and noticed two GTA5 icons running in the task bar. One is the 'launcher' and one is the game itself. For a laugh I closed down the launcher one, went back into the game - and the stuttering was improved massively!

I thought I'd discovered something major myself, but went and did a bit of searching and found some posts on reddit detailing this exact issue!

Apparently alt tabbing out and closing the launcher isn't the best way to do it as it can cause a memory leak. The best way is to make a batch file with a delayed process to close the launcher, and make the GTA5 exe a top cpu priority....

I made a batch file with the following code:

"E:\Downloads\Games\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V\PlayGTAV.exe"
timeout 60
taskkill /F /IM gtavlauncher.exe
wmic process where name="GTA5.exe" CALL setpriority "high priority"

You would need to amend drive letters and location accordingly to your system. I'm also using the DVD version of the game so those running it on steam would have to use different code (look on reddit). But, launch the game using a batch file with relevant code like this, and by god it works!

I'm still testing but there is definitely less stutter now out in the north of the map/ countryside.

Some people on reddit were saying doing this makes the game crash. I haven't had this yet, but still need to test more.

People on here should try this out and report their findings :)

I was using Prio rather than a batch file.

It did help a bit but after the patch it crashed the game. So reverted back to the original priority.

There is still a memory leak though.

Starts off at 5.5 GB ish and ends at 7.5....

From what I can gather, the key thing is to kill the GTA5 Launcher proceess. I think the priority tweak is of secondary importance.

AMDMatt,

Are you getting fairly solid GPU usage during play?

From your screenies, it seems that way. My 3 cards are spiking all over the place. Massive range and hardly any solid sections where a card is used above 50%.

The spikes are from driving, and the solid part at the end is when walking around. Any idea why at this point a card seems to not really get used?

Something else I noticed too is the cards core clocks seem to randomly switch from the 1025 I have set, to a strange fluctuation as seen here:

I didn't notice a point when driving around where things got particularly bad because of the clock change, so I have no idea what effect thats having.

Ran a quick heaven bench straight after to see if its just after burner rendering odd graphs, but whilst the cards aren't fully utilised by looking at the graph, they do seem much more steady:

Any thoughts?

Still getting on with the game as its perfectly playable I suppose, but just wondering if something looks wrong.

Latest 15.4 drivers, 1080p, 4x AA just to push the cards, and very high to ultra settings. Sliders all maxed apart from extended shadows distance that seems to cripple it.

Cheers

(Also, temps are fine at around the 60 degree mark)

Could anyone help my friend get his GPU usage up plz, hes running a 4670k and a gtx 760.

Hes only getting around 50% GPU usage, i know his graphics card is about the same power as mine, so i set mine to stock speeds and set exactly the same settings as his, and im getting 99% usage at them settings, and a lot better FPS.

Hes got vsync off and no FPS limiter on, anyone got a clue whats holding back the graphics? Ta.

CPU bottleneck. Add some MSAA.

I thought it was a CPU bottleneck but his CPU is pretty good. It occasionally spikes to 90% but just for a second hten goes back down again, he said during hte spikes the FPS shoots up too.

Sorted, i got him to set GTA to high priority in task manager, and its 60fps and using all his GPU now....he bought the game cause i was saying how nice it ran, i thought i had wasted his money for a min there :)

Crossfire scaling.

That must be using "Enable Unified GPU Usage monitoring" which doesn't show a true reflection of the gpu usage.

Anyone seem to have lag issues in GTA online today? Seem to take ages getting in and out of lobbies and finding people for heists also while playing a heist or job cars would teleport about not just players cars but general cars driving about with NPCs in them. Was horrible today especially when driving down the freeway/motorway.
