GTAV performance thread.

I've changed my tactics a bit now for this game. Running 780ti in SLI by the way, at 1440p on a rog swift with gsync.
I'm finding it painful getting consistent stutter free performance across all locations. I think This game, like many, has slight weirdness when it comes to SLI, vsync and gsync. Gsync just isn't cutting it properly for some reason and isn't helping with stutter.
So I've changed my tactics to running the game at 60hz and shooting for a rock steady consistent 60fps at all times. Weirdly, to do this though I have to set my swift to 60hz, but use a framerate limiter and set it to 59.

Doing this, it really is smooth as silk and I can pretty much max out all the settings (except msaa which I'm not using anyway - using sweetfx and SMAA instead.)
I just need to get used to trying to live with 60hz bluriness, but it's the best solution I've found for now.

I was wondering if I was the only one to notice gsync doesn't seem to work right in gta 5.Something isn't quite right and the faintest amount of stutter in single card and sli seems to happen when panning round.Plays beautifully smooth at 60 fps on my TV ,but seems to suffer more from blur on my rog swift when locked at 60 hz.Dont get me wrong it's not gta 4 levels of stuttering and stammering but because it does run soooo smoothly at times it's quite jarring when it hiccups on the swift.its as if its occasionally drawing a frame twice or something.

Messing with my settings again :o Couldn't get radeonpro to work so tried borderless mode and it is much better than having vsync on in game.

Using these settings:

Can't decide on whether to use AMD shadows or softest....

And this is my FPS in the most demanding areas, at least for me anyway:

In the city and other areas, I get 50+FPS

Check if you have Raw input enabled.. On my setup I noticed Raw Input added a little stutter when looking around.

Yeah I've tried mouse with all settings windows, raw and direct input and it seems quite jittery with all of them to be honest.but even with the benefit of using a 360 controller the jitteriness is reduced, but the slight hiccups still occur.Normally I would have attributed it to hard drive paging/texture streaming but I know for a fact that on my TV it's perfect when it maintains 60 fps,I obviously noticed the stutters when running below 60 but they are few and far between with sli 980 's.Dont get the wrong impression that it's awful or anything :) but I'm just a bit fussy at times and because the game is beautifully smooth and really well optimised, the slight hiccups just make me sorry cos it would be otherwise perfect.

That's the one drawback of Gsync ironically. When you factor in SLI sometimes, and / or games that are just badly coded (not saying GTA5 is) - if you get some stutter or microstutter, Gsync cannot fix it and the issue is actually made worse, as Gsync makes it so smooth the rest of the time - it's more noticable!

I dont get any stutter with FreeSync is remains very smooth. Although this is with a single GPU.. Atm I choosing to use Xfire without FS till driver lands.

I have found that on my dual 780s in a 4930k system (as per sig) GPU utilisation is quite erratic (varies from 70-98% - often inexplicably lower when it seems to be needed). What seems to have fixed it is turning on MSAA to x2 and NVIDIA TXAA (despite the fact that my video memory has gone to 6518/6142 MB. Now GPU utilisation is in the 90% virtually all the time and no stutter.

+1. It's the erratic nature that is weird

I think we're all getting the same issues: High fps then drops when more is going on.

Have sli issues with system lockups and crashes been fixed? I see lots of people here running 4k on a single TX with apparent better or close to as good performance as I do with sli TX and roughly the same settings. :/

Some people are exaggerating I think...

I run TitanX SLI and have not had any lockups/crashes with the game.

Mine does do a weird thing when you exit the game though. I can't even really describe it. Blank screens all my monitors, I have to yank out one of the display cables to get a picture. Then I can at least see the windows desktop and my mouse moves around but I can't select anything and Ctrl+alt+del doesn't bring up Task manager.

I have to reboot the PC.

Quick question about shadows casting and stuff.....

this is like the watchdogs/ GTA debate all over again, but how come your character doesn't cast shadows at night from car headlights? BUT, headlights from your car causes shadow casting from pedestrians and other vehicles onto walls etc, and looks really good.

I put this in another thread but I will post it here too.

Here is me near the beginning of the game mostly trying and failing to lose the cops lol.

GTA V totally maxed

There is a constant 8gb of VRAM in use for the game.

If someone who can play the game was using my PC I am sure the GPU usage would be a bit smoother, unfortunately I was crashing into things every 2 seconds.:D:)

Ive read through most of this and not seen anyone mention problems with memory leaks..
I can just ctd and windows says out of memory. Seems loads of people have it from google searches. Everyone here not getting it?

It's the first game to make me tempted to upgrade from 8gb RAM. Lots of people reporting usage close to or over that.

It also seems to like using pagefile if you have it enabled.
