GTAV performance thread.

Ambient Occlusion is broken though at the moment isn't it?

Not sure, can you link to where it says that?
Ambient Occlusion

Typically, Ambient Occlusion (AO) adds contact shadows where two surfaces or objects meet, and where an object blocks light from reaching another nearby game element. In Grand Theft Auto V though, no AO shadows are to be found because of a game application bug. Expect it to be fixed in a forthcoming update, at which time we'll reevaluate its impact and update the guide.

Titan X 2-way SLI certainly get a workout in GTA5 at 2880x1620

Well blow me. Didn't realise there was an issue with AO. AO often has quite a hard impact on GPU use so if this is enabled and working properly in a future patch then a lot of people's performance might drop a fair bit?

sounds like the gsync and freesync monitors are just a marketing gimmick to boost the price

They aren't marketing gimmicks.

I am running very specific settings with Nvidia v-sync (from the control panel), basically a locked 60 FPS with maybe a dip or two to 57-58ish (rare though).

I prefer a smoother experience over running maximum settings until I get a second TX.

Gsync is good when your FPS dips - for example you are running 100FPS and there's explosions and a lot going on dipping your FPS to 70. That's were the panel (gsync-freesync) kicks in and adapts the FPS to the Hz of the monitor that smooths out the dip so it isn't as noticeable as it would with a non Gsync-Freesync monitor.

Screen-tearing happens when running over the monitors refresh rate, in my case that's why I use Nvidia panels vsync (60Hz) max as that's what my monitor can do while keeping it in a range of 57-60 FPS were dips and screen tearing aren't apparent.

DoF does, Ambient Occlusion improves dark areas.

I love DoF, but its not heavy enough for my liking, its more realistic having your peripheral vision blurred to me, especially playing first person mode. Everyone to their own i guess.

If ya have DoF ya can pump up your close range graphics and cut down on the long range stuff also.

Yeah but looking at a screen isn't the same as looking out of your own eyes and peripheral vision.

All DoF does for me is create blur which I don't like at all.

OK so today I ran FRAPS and recorded some frames. It seems I am getting a minimum of 38 FPS and a maximum of around 55 with it mostly running 43 or so. So not bad and I hear the latest patch has messed with SLI a little bit. Either way the game runs butter smooth considering the resolution and settings I am using (max everything 2xMSAA).

I would imagine Gsync is really helping me too.

Mixture of very high and ultra, distance and shadow scaling maxed, vehicle and population densities maxed, high res shadows disabled, nvidia shadows, reflection msaa 4x, 2xmsaa, TXAA & FXAA.

Runs around 65-80 fps, lows in the 50's, butter smooth with gsync, needs mo vram, need TX's in stock somewhere!!!!

Interesting. The first shots I have seen where SLI is used and 90%+ card utilization. Do you have any specific driver, SLI bits profile or anything? MY 670s never go above 70% usage

Thanks for this. I have set mine the same (but 1440p) and seems to be running and looking better than before

I would get reflections on ultra and reflection msaa on, it doesnt hog too much gpu power but looks real nice, takes a lot of the jaggies away. I do like my fancy reflections though. :)

Ok.. msi AB works fine with this game for me, I just realized that sometimes AB was loading up before the amd catalyst I guess and screwing something up. I disabled the "start with windows" and now crank it up manually. All is well :D

Its funny how its saying its using so much video memory, Ab doesnt agree though :)

Mine says im using 6800/6100, but i turned extended scaling up to full yesterday just to try it and it went to like 7200/6100 lol, then it really did run out of vram as it started getting real choppy.

I got that after the new ATI driver installed, i cured it by just shutting down AB manually then restarting without AB. Then it started as normal next time i restarted.
