We're due to go live very soon here, I want some fast fibre to stream videos to the cows in the milking parlour. How far from the cabinet are you? those are good speeds!

just a bump for this question as im in a similar situation , i used to use betheres router in bridge mode and have it act purely as a modem handing the connection off to a linksys e3200 with tomato firmware this worked quite well and allowed to me either use the vpn server in the router or pass it on to a debian vm machine vpn

ive found the bt hh to be shocking when it comes to all but the very basic of features
most frustrating is the lack of a respond to imcp ping option :mad:

dmz support is bad as well sometimes working most often not with some mac addresses not being listed for use :mad:

so ive come to the conclusion i must also either look for an openreach modem and maybe use that with a pfsense based setup or maybe look the members market for an all in one option

any recommendations? do you have to stick to certain routers as like sky do with mer?

Yup, living on a farm, cabinet is located in the exchange premises which is about 300 meters away.

300 is nice and close, we're 500-600mtrs from ours. I'm hoping for similar speeds to yours.

So been with plus net for almost 3years now, 1month contract but just left it rolling. With all the hype of vm going up to 150/200 I thought I'd have a look at my options.

Currently paying just shy of £37 a month for the 76mb unlimited with line rental and weekend/evening calls.

doesn't seem like bt have increased their bb limits at all.... Not sure if it's a limit of using fiber to cabinet then the old copper wires to the modem?

So what are my options? Just stick with plusnet and try to get a discount for being a customer for 3 years? Any other providers out there besides vm? I left vm because they were giving me bs about not throttling my line when the 4th support I spoke to said yes it was being throttled on a new trial policy... Which crippled my Internet and not interested in TV so hence then move to plusnet (which was also an increase in speed at the time)

How long does it actually take to settle. My area was upgraded to 20mb from 8mb when inifinity became available. So I ordered infinity 2. My gear came yesterday and before being activated yesterday I was getting 20mb down 1mb up with the new home hub.

Today they activated infinity and I'm getting 5-6mb down 17mb up!

What was your estimated speed as that's definitely not right!

68mb was estimated. I reset the hub and it's slowly going up each time I run the check using speedtest. It seems to be really erratic, one test it will top out at 20mb next test 65 and loads sitting around 30. But it ramps up, is this normal?

I guess I will leave it a few days and then phone them up if it's not better.

As you can see it's all over the place. We only got it in the area this week, maybe some teething issues?

Not happening. Expect upwards of 60 though.

Are you using wireless to do your speedtest? What is your sync speed listed as on the HH5?

I have tried wireless, wired and connected straight into the hub. I think this is the sync speed?

I am using devolo 650+ homeplugs for my pc but I have tried directly wired to the hub as well and it's the same.

Your sync speed is max upload and pritty much max download. I think the highest it can sync is 79999. You should be getting 70 ish down in the speed tests. Have you tried running it on another site? try

Checked this morning on when and where.. No FTTC available.

I've placed an order with Plusnet, I called up and ordered, with an engineer date of the 18th Dec

- 24 Month contract Unlimited 76mb (up to) £15 per month
- Anytime calls £3 per month for the first six months (Increasing to £6 after six months)
- Yearly line rental £185

Good deal? Anything over 50mb I'll be happy with to be honest.

Can I do either of these with a HomeHub 5 or do I need to plug in my 3rd party router?

1) Enable ICMP on the WAN so broadband monitors work
2) View the max attainable line rate

So was doing a bit of research on my FTTC cabinet to see if there was a way to squeeze a bit more speed (44 dl/7 ul), then I realised I may not even have G.INP due to being served by an ECI cabinet. I also only just realised my modem is ECI as well

. I'm guessing there's no point in me replacing the modem. I also found out there's possibly 3 other fibre cabinets a little closer to me than the one I'm being served by linked by the same exchange...

Does this also mean possibly no vectoring support as well?
