BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Hi All,

Unfortunately ive been having big problems with my BT services, all due to what i believe is manual error (e.g. yesterday all my services - broadband, tv and phone were cancelled without my knowledge. Though BB is back, TV unavailable until 11th December).

Enough is enough and i cant keep a whole service just for the BB (though i would like to).

Does anyone just have the BB from BT and no other services?

That said, can anyone confirm who is the best ISP these days for gaming and streaming. (Will not be going to VM).

hard to tell but I think its the original so around 25/30 years? it doesnt look big enough to be a master socket but its all i've got. I'll check it properly for markings when i get in

My inifinity has been syncing at ~51000kbps and since yesterday evening it dropped (pretty much the first time since install ~6 weeks ago) and went to ~33000kbps......few rests of the HH5 and it's back at around 41000kbps but won't go higher.

Is this common? Should I call them? It's a bit annoying, although I do feel a bit like a grump complaining about 40mbps when I had 21mbps in the last house.

Code:
6.	Data Rate:	12009 / 43199
7.	Maximum Data Rate:	11972 / 49550
8.	Noise Margin:	6.0 / 5.3
9.	Line Attenuation:	0.0 / 20.6
10.	Signal Attenuation:	0.0 / 0.0

Resetting the HH5 will make it worse? as the cab detects the loss of connection causing DLM to slow the line down thinking there are errors?

I thought the correct procedure was to unplug the router for over half an hour, so it detects it as a power off instead?

That might explain why it was up and down like a yo-yo then.

I'll try that!

Might want to report a fault on that if those Attenuation figures are correct.

I'm currently waiting for a BT engineer to show up for a booked installation appointment slot of 8am to 1pm, could they literally show up at any time between then?

By chance I found a spare NTE5 that I'd bought a year or so ago and thought, "why not" and changed it over.

The engineer had fitted an SSFP over the top of the existing NTE5 which must have been there when the house was built ~12 years ago (I've just moved in) and I think it must have been faulty.

Changing the NTE5 over to the new one has resulted in my line speed becoming stable, stats becoming stable and.....the best bit....going up 22mbps to over the maximum estimated speed.

Happy days.... :)

I accidentally changed our old 1960s master socket to a NTE5a a few months back with a MK2 faceplate ;)

Good thing I did as our Fibre is a self install!

If you got a home hub 5 then it's likely that the Engineer won't even come to the house? Have you plugged it in?

Well my only choice for Fibre is the WBC FTTP product which I believe requires some external and internal engineer work.

In any case as per usual of BT they have screwed up my order and failed to inform me that an engineer won't be coming today due to not completing the external engineering work. Cheers BT, just wasted a whole day off work which I've had to use as holiday. It is now looking likely I won't get fibre installed before Christmas. Thought I'd be smart and get my internet order in before I moved house, should have thought better considering it is BT.

Frustrated to say the least!
