Oculus Rift

Seems like temptation is really playing hard ball, credit card limit just been increased 5 days before the Vive pre-orders open.

Have you preordered the Rift as well?

To be honest, I wasn't really looking at the Vive, but the more and more I see of room scale VR, the more I want to make room somewhere in the house where I can have a play. At this rate it'll likely end with both bits of kit.

Yeah, the Vive definitely has a lot going for it. The tracking system looks a class above. The only thing that concerns me slightly is the software side - we haven't heard a huge amount about what will be available for it at launch.

I'm gonna pre-order it on Monday anyway I think. No harm in doing that. Then I'll just have an internal battle with myself for the next month!!

It's the tracking that attracts me to the Vive too. I've only been following the VR debate on a peripheral level but I know I'm going to have to order a VR headset at some point just to try it out.

If Monday is the deadline for preordering the Vive I assume you do it through the www.htcvive.com site? Assuming it won't crash...

Is there a Vive thread :) ?

And a general forum comment, VR seems such an important shift (or not...) in gaming, the threads on VR in general and the various headsets could be better organised. I've been discussing the Vive in the Rift forum as this is where the general VR debate seems to sit.

It just seems a bit clumsy...

Already have my Rift pre-order, got an April date for mine which isn't too bad, but I am likely to order the Vive on Monday as well. Could then either cancel the Rift or it sell it on at a premium because of availability.

Same for me although the Rift date for me is May, which gives me more time to decide.

Not sure why ppl would buy it since theres no real games for it and wont be for awhile. Few demos maybe and hacked to work but nothing really designed to really test the limits with the hardware is there?

Sure, the content is thin but it is not non-existent

  • Eve: Valkerie
  • Elite: Dangerous
  • Project Cars
  • Dirt Rally
  • Space Pirate Trainer
  • Hover Junkers
  • Fantastic Contraptions
  • Arizona Sunshine
  • Cloudlands: VR Minigolf
  • Budget Cuts
  • Job Simulator

There are many more planned too - https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/3z6iyi/list_of_full_oculus_rift_games_available_in_q1q2/

There's more good titles there than were available on the XBO or PS4 at launch :p

There's about as many new VR enabled titles, if not more, than there would be for any new platform launch. Plus there is an existing array of "normal" games that also have VR support already built in.

Not sure on your point.

He based it on lack of knowledge.

I'm surprised there isnt more excitement in this thread about the virtuix omni? For me, the freedom to move around a virtual space is half of what VR is about (the other half being able to look around).

I remember seeing a similar setup on the gadget show a few years ago and it looked good, probably not really consumer tech but cool anyway.

ahh this...well theres problems with it. The treadmill movement problems.

have to dash to work but will reply later if no one else hasnt.

Heres a review of the final version of the omni - has potential but movement is quite awkward which is a shame because i would be interested in this kind of product.

Well I'm guessing no one has bothered posting in here since it got its own silent thread!

Had me scrolling through page upon page of the pc games section till I realised it cant have been a months since the last post I read. Anyway, pricings which are now pointless as there are 20 different topics:

Most notably, the Vive will cost £689 in the UK, and US$899 in Australia. That latter price is $100 more than in the US, though it does include shipping. Australians should therefore expect to pay around AU$1,261 for their Vive, at the time of writing, though any relevant sales taxes aren't included.

That's from the PC Gamer article, right? They updated it slightly

That latter price is $100 more than in the US, not including shipping (update: previously I wrote that it did include shipping, but alas, it doesn't).
