Oculus Rift

So how awesome is Skyrim in VR, has anyone here tried it?

I spent ages trying to get it to work using VorpX - without native support, you're always going to struggle, but I never managed to get a decent experience.

Felt very "flat" with no depth, messing with the scaling gave you giant arms and odd perspective. Not a very pleasant experience overall.

This was 9 months ago (sold my Rift since) but I doubt it's much better unless there are VorpX/mod improvements to it.

So I am rechecking my order confirmation emails.

Just wondering, when people pull up the order web page, does it just say shipping TBA for them now?

I don't seem to have an estimated order date anymore, sure I had one when ordering... thought I was near the front.

Now that they're out officially, how have used DK prices been? Worth getting a Dk2 if they're not mentally expensive? I see them on ebay for £200+. Worth a punt, given that I'd only want to use it for the odd flight sim and or movie in a virtual cinema :D

I was wondering about this too. I'm sure it said June for me when I originally ordered but now it says TBA. Kinda hoping it comes sooner than June but not too fussed.

From memory the date you got was only mentioned at the initial ordering phase - at the start when adding to basket and on the webpage after checkout.

AFAIK nothing since has had a date on it.

Edit - yep mine still says "(TBA when your order ships)" when I request the tracking email.

As previously mentioned, you were only given an estimated date when the Rift was placed in your basket, it has never shown up on your order confirmation page... However! Oculus are working on adding that feature, as was said on their forums.
We were planning on adding this feature in to the order history page, but I'm not sure how long that will take to create.

No idea when it will actually be done, but it'll certainly be a nice feature to have. I am possibly set for April, but considering all the cancellations that may have happened, never know, may be closer than I think!

Is there a Vive thread :) ?

Any comparison online for both of these in terms of specs and what to expect from each etc?

Just conscience that the Vive is the "gamers" headset supported by Steam etc etc.
Whereas the Oculus is *spit* facebook.

Very few people have tried the vive yet afaik, whereas oculus released 'beta' kits paid for, so loads of people have them.

Most of the reviews are from devs that have been invited to trade shows and stuff. Theres a few good comparisons on youtube, but a lot of the decision which to go for is based upon end user requirements by the looks of it.

i'm certain there will be a vive thread in time, look forward to seeing how they compare too

Probably best to use this one currently...

If you are referring to the DK1/2 kits from Oculus that anyone could buy, they have little bearing on the quality of the Consumer Rift. I would guess more people (devs) actually have hardware closer to the final Vive than have CV1.

We've got Vive Pre and CV1 in the office now...although I've not had a chance to get my mitts on them. AFAIK the display technology in the Pre isn't any different from the previous version though.

I didn't think the Vive was a particularly big improvement over the DK2 personally, but people's opinions differ.
