Oculus Rift

I bought one and yes I'm crazy. I have a 970 coming tomorrow so I can test it properly (my 7950 recently packed up), but I've been having fun running some demos and vr minecraft on an old gpu. It's actually better than I thought it would be, both comfort and image quality wise.

If I feel like I'm quickly getting bored with it then I'll sell it for what I got it for in the next couple of weeks. They're still going for £300+

Don't agree with the DK2 being too heavy for extended use. I regularly rack up 3+ hours straight playing Elite Dangerous, without any discomfort. Sure, the room gets hot, but that's because my 290X is chucking out so much heat!

Its more the heat on my face than the weight. Sure, its not like strapping a 20kg plate to your forehead but you still know its there.

The heat cannot really be measured either, some people can sit for hours with headphones on, i cannot and even smaller headphones make my ears roasting hot after a few minutes. The same way as gloves can be very warm on one person but another may find their hands are freezing with the same ones.

I purchased a DK2 the other week. I know its development hardware but I thought it was one huge load of faff to use! The experience with Project cars was great but the quality isn't great. I had it about a week and decided to sell it. Made £95 profit too.

i wear glasses so to reduce the "goggle" effect i have to move the lenses quite close to them. its a bit of a squeeze. Sometimes also i wonder if my ipd is set correctly (70.5)..sure the sweet spot (dead centreish) is clear i guess but peripheral stuff isnt great.

Playing some ets2 later will try some varieties of DSR see how it goes. Shame there isnt a dedicated mega thread on ets forums (like there is on Elite forums) which is a step by step guide to getting the best vr experience and performance.

Cancelled my pre order today, not sure how i would get on with it and my dizziness and so going to test a friends out first. Will also give me a chance to see if they are any good.

good idea. If you do suffer with dizzy spells then VR will do you no good at all. I never really suffer with things like that, but after just a few minutes on the DK2 I felt very sick and light headed.

I hope so. I tried DK2 at a LAN event and it wasn't brilliant, it was like sitting a few inches from a TV and being able to see each individual pixel. The resolution was far to low.

If screen rez is your thing, I would not consider the CV1 and probably not the next generation either. The difference - whilst noticeable - will not be that big a change. For a demo you can see what the difference will be at the oculus simulator here - http://vr.mkeblx.net/oculus-sim/ - remember to turn on low persistence.

Would agree with you there, I regularly fly DCS missions and on FSX and dont really notice the DK2 after the first few minutes. Maybe it helps I bought the VR covers to protect the foam which cuts out the light and makes the set more comfortable. Unfortunately my DK2 broke down two weeks ago and I find it quite boring now flying with the trackir again, waiting for my CV1.

Oculus have released vendors and prices for official Oculus ready PC's.

ASUS, Dell and Alienware, so Dell x2.

Sadly not an AMD GPU amongst them.

But hey it's their tech they must know what is needed.
