So I was on the pre-order for the Asus Strix 1080 OC (like so many others) and I bailed a couple of weeks ago and got the Gigabyte G1.

I had already put in another preorder for the Strix and Zotac Extreme from the rainforest and didn't cancel (both were around £620)

My plan was to see how this performs and then decide if I'd sell it and keep the other one.

I have a couple of questions

I can only seem to get the G1 up to 1761/1900 is that a limitation of the single 8 pin power?

My ram is showing as 10010 I'm guessing with the GDDR5 that makes it 50050??

I have set the fan to turbo to keep the heat down but running ultra @5760x1200 on GTA V the fans are quite loud ~65%

Is it worth me holding on for the Strix OC (est End of August) or the Zotac??

Looks good if you're not going to be overclocking yourself, but otherwise seems a bit too expensive as it overclocks to around the same level as the other 1080s?

Most non-ref cards should do 2000mhz boost or more. Mine needs +30 (1890mhz) to hit 2000mhz on the dot after extended periods in warm temps. Initially it's higher than this. You're ram will be 5005mhz. That resolution is silly

Its the Cyborg red skin interface. Also the card is the Gainward Phoenix GLH. Ugly but fast...

I just did a quick bench and it looks like boost is around 2025, Mine is on +65MHz

And oops I got a shipped notification on the Zotac Extreme :eek:

Yeah 5760x1200 is because I have 3 x 24" 1920x1200 screens

As far as I understand, with Pascal it's not so much number of power pins as it is susceptibility to heat?

I have an EVGA 1080FE under water, it boosts to 2100 (+200), with mem @ 5500 (+500), with Heaven benchmark temps maxxed out at 59 deg.

Correct. There are only two things which differ between cards and that is heat and TDP.

I think the zotac and GLH both have higher TDP than other cards which enables higher stable boosts but they both also have the best air coolers and can keep the temps low enough so they dont throttle.

You still have a lottery on the actually silicon itself as to whether you get just over 2000 or over 2100.

I have seen several cards drop their max boost slightly at 50C so if you can keep the card below that then you have the max boost for your chip.

I have seen claims made that the FE have a better bios and that 2050 on a FE card is as fast in benchmarks as 2300 on an AIB card but I have yet to see absolute proof of this.

Could I ask the opinion of you 1080 owners. I'm upgrading from a 1070 gaming x, and have got 2 founders 1080s to go sli. I managed to get them for £436 and £525, so £961 total. I thought that was a pretty good deal, however I have a zotac amp extreme on preorder from the rainforest for £575, which is also a good deal, and if I sold the others and got a second amp extreme I'd probably be looking at about £1150 sli.

I'm looking to maximise the use of my 1440p 144hz monitor for battlefield 4 and ultimately bf1 in November. Happy as long as it's usually over 120fps, but would also like to forget about upgrading for a couple of years.
What would you guys do with your 1080 hindsight?

Blower type standard reference cards are normally more suited to sli configurations as the heat is mostly sent outside the case unlike a lot of none reference cards. You would need really good airflow for anything other than reference, especially in summer.

Yes that was the only other thing drawing me to Fe, other than the price. Flicking through reddit some would suggest 3rd party cards in sli are much better for sli if you have the room, which I would assume I have in a h440, but maybe they're talking about massive towers. I wouldn't be rushing to oc the Fe cards as I'm noob at it, and would consider aio water if I did. Just wanted to check with experienced people if I'm missing an opportunity with the amp extremes.

Anyone got a pair of AIB cards in SLI who can give me an idea if it works well? Was thinking of getting a couple of Super Jetstreams.

Well I was going to wait until I could find a Zotac Amp Extreme in stock somewhere with a price that wasn't extracting the urine (£695 is ridiculous) but I saw that overclockers were doing the Palit Super Jetstream for 7% off making it a decent £599.99 so I've taken the plunge and will be getting it tomorrow

Am just wondering what the best overclocking software is and whether the latest NVidia drivers are any good..?

Now begins the mad rush to pay off my credit card before I can get myself a Rift lol
