Now, about that other empty box scammer you busted, I can't remember it, was it a while ago?

Now I've read all the thread and Jeff Crawley is telling the truth.
I was on the side of the scammer originally and then I shifted sides when I took the advert into work and asked some very clever people what they were buying and everybody said an XBOX. I then realised that even the clever people got it wrong and I shifted sides.
Quite a few of us contacted EBAY and they were very quick to remove the sale.

I realise it is nicely worded but it would worry me far to much to place such an add myself. I can just imagine a well meaning grandma/girlfriend/etc purchasing it for a loved one and the thought that I could cause someone pain would stop me.

You could have flattened it, that way making it an ex xbox box.

Like the idea though, at least its obvious.

Yeah, I lost my login details and could not get them resent to me as I no longer had my e-mail as I had changed ISP. So I signed up again.
You should have contacted a moderator - having multiple accounts is a bannable offence. Email me whatever you can about your old account (partial or potential user names, ISP, registered email and any IPs that you know of).

Indeed, the BIN comment was just a bit of devilment on my part, it was something to get the holier-than-thou brigade frothing at the mouth.
Good job I read the entire thread before jumping in and saying it was probably with tongue firmly wedged in cheek then! :)

Speaking of ebay I'm really miffed atm. Bidding on a virtually new MTB for my daughter and someone else put in the same high bid as me - except he bid 1 sec before me (6s vs 5s) Bah!

They arent unlucky if they read that and still think it's an xbox. They are stupid.

Not everyone has an IQ of 150, what if the buyer is mentally retarded?

At the end of the day the auctions are purposely designed to be misleading, I don't see them taking photos of the box wide open showing the empty innards and advertising "an empty cardboard box", but rather "Xbox box" in an attempt to mislead, some even go as far as listing the console specification.

Who sells a cardboard box anyway?? i'd sooner bin it than waste time over a couple of quid, it's just an attempt at a scam (hoping you get lucky) whichever way you want to dress it.

Is that a joke? If you are mentally retarded as you put it surely you shouldnt be in control of a credit card?

Put it on the bay mate you could get lucky and make a few quid off it.

Someone's probably already said but...

...the problem with these auctions is not so much the wording, it's that they're placed in the x-box 360 consoles section.

They actively pick Computer Games and Consoles > X-box 360 > Consoles

Now to me it doesn't matter how it's worded, whether you use big red font to indicate it's only a box, it is a scam.

If you want to sell the box, that's fine but don't put it in the section for the consoles only.

If you went into Bob's Electrical store (made up, not a competitor) and spotted a 46" plasma TV in the TV section, grabbed the box off the shelf for £2k and got home to find the box empty you would't be very happy would you. Aside from the clear problem with gauging weight you have, i'd say the shop was at fault even if they advertised it was the box only.

Edit: read a bit more of the thread and Tru has his in the accessories section which is slightly better.

Bang on the nail...

I just can't believe that anyone would think it's ok to do that.

If shops/sellers were to follow this tread, you would need to double-check everythings even term&conditions to make sure you are buying a genuine items = sore eyes at the end of day! :p
