Wow, that's some hours clocked up.

I've played about 60 hours now, and just finished the main quest and the mages guild.

Not done any fighters/darkbrotherhood and very little theives, so that's my next move.

Your going to have a lot of fun with the thives/DB quest lines :p

Don't know if its been mentioned but an official exporter is being released soon. This means all the mods we enjoyed for morrowind will soon be possible!

Yeah, i've just clocked up 60 hours, but just started doing the main quest. Closed the first gate and i've just come out of the sewers looking for those mystic fuddy duddies. I'm actually finding the main storyline damn good so far and starting the main quest late is good imo because all the enemies are high level daedra, so it just seems more fitting it being the main quest. :D

Completed the mages guild and arena, and was halfway through the fighters guild. I actualy intended to complete the fighters guild, but i though, why not do the next part of the main quest, and from there on, i was hooked on the storyline :D

dam i hate this game !

is just so dam BIG and so dam good

cant stop myself wasting all my free time on this, I sem to spend hours doing nothing much but jesus its good

I'm just waiting for them to do a mod for oblivion which is morrowind but on the oblivion engine with havoc and radiant ai. Still nothing looks as cool as the indoril/high ordinator armor.

haha that should be all serious oblivion players mottos...

the only reason i've stop playing Oblivion is to play Guitar Hero with a few mates, but when i get the chance i do still have a quick burst on it (which turns into a few hours).

my best mate actually refuses to buy Oblivion because of how much Morrowind sapped away his life... i'm still working him over, he'll be playing Oblivion in a few months, just you wait :p

how do you know which is the main quest and which are not?

The main quest is basically the series of quests that directly lead off from when you start off in prison and get the Amulet of Kings from the emperor, and have to deliver it the weynon priory.

If anyone here with a decent(ish) card which doesn't support shader model 3.0 (i.e X800) you can fiddle about with the bloom and some mods out there which imo looks a great deal better than default.

I posted some pics in the screenshot thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=6829577&postcount=4103

The guide to enhancing bloom is here:

I didn't enhance it as much as the OP as it was far to bright for my liking but i suggest you keep tweaking it untill you are happy.

The mod is here:

Couple of magic related questions.

My character is a marksman/assasin, and for most of the levels I have invested in speed, agility, strength, and other combat skills. Recently I decided to improve my magical skills. I have all schools of magic at least at apprentice level, some journeyman. I am now coming up against a problem where I have very little magika, and not enough to cast spells that I can use due to my skill in that school of magic. At level 20 I only have 106 (about that) magika, which is keeping me back a lot. I am trying to invest in intelligence when I level up, but it seems to be having only a small effect. After doing the mage guild recommendation quests, I ended up with the spell "Finger of the Mountain". I realise I shouldn't have as much magika as mages or battlemages or what not, but with this spell requiring over 1000 magika, I can't see my character ever being able to use it (although it is a very powerful spell). So does anyone have any ideas of how to increase my magika?

Second question, with some schools of magic, to increase your skill you can simply cast spells on yourself, but with spells like destruction spells, to increase the skill does it have to hit someone/be in combat, or can you use the training boards at places like the DB sanctuary, or the Arcane University?

You can enchant items to increase magicka, i think. How much i don't know. EDIT: oh, it's not that great - only 10 for a grand soul gem on each worn item. Perhaps you would be better fortifying intelligence or willpower (whatever governs maximum magicka?)

Create a spell in the arcane university which does 1hp damage to yourself ;)

ah cheers mate, will fiddle around with the bloom bits now, your screenies in the 800*600 thread were awesome...

edit:
any chance you could post the settings (and amounts) you used for the extra bloom bits in the ini file?
for those... (read: me) who can't be bothered to test and edit themselves :o

From what I can tell in the game its hard to be a complete jack-of-all-trades, which is what you're proposing essentially, you want to have all the right stats for thieving, marksman and magic? I suppose next you'll be telling me you want to go wading into battle as a warrior with claymores and heavy armor too, relying on your phenomenal strength and endurance that you've worked up alongside your other skills?
To be honest, I reckon if you want to be a major magic wielder, start off as a mage, battlemage or the like, not as a thief/marksman. The magical abilities you've got are more to give yourself an edge, like healing, curing disease, detecting life, opening locks, that kinda thing, not going in with massive firestorms raging, obliterating all in your path.
About the only thing I can suggest is doing something to seriously boost your intelligence stats, be it enchanting your armor or potions stuff. Off hand I seem to recall having in my inventory some nice potions I've made that fortify my magicka, and boost the recharge rate. On a similar theme I've got some very nice ones that fortify my health and healing rate at the same time. They're great in tough situations :D

From what I can see hitting the training boards doesn't seem to increase the skills much. You're better off with a small spell that damages yourself if you can find one.

Rusty the sword.

I've got this nice katana thing (think it was that jolly nice fellow Blade blokes one originally) that I've enchanted with "Disintegrate weapon" for 1 second, with quite a good number of points of disintegration on it. Does that mean all the damage applies in one second or does it mean the disintegration only last for a second and the weapon regenerates? I used the Disintegrate weapon on touch spell to enchant the weapon.
Its not aimed as being my primary weapon, I didn't use much of a crystal on it and it loses charge fairly quickly. I've got it in mind for dealing with certain pesky fighters that insist on getting too close to my battlemage with their nasty chopping things. Hopefully when they get close they'll discover I have a disarming personality.. or somesuch :)

What looks better HDR or Bloom with AA/AF?

This question is for peeps with nVidia cards or low end computers

Bloom with AA IMO.. but then I've even turned that off.

Nice idea but the programmers have just gone way ott with it, felt the same about the HL2 tech demo level too though.

Got this the other day great game so far the only thing leting it down is my gfx card... im running it on a 9800 se bleh! (it runs but only just) so ive decided to treat myself this easter weekend to a new gfx card, now rather than read 77 pages could you guys either what pages in the thread to read or let me your recomendation ie nvida or ati etc

I think it damages the weapon permanently. However, its not really much use when the enemies have high level weapons which can take quite a lot of damage. For example, i created a spell to disintegrate my ebony longsword for 30pts for 2 seconds, so i can level my armorer skill, but after those 2 seconds only about 8% of my weapon had been degraded. :(

I have a low end computer and an nvidia card, so i can take a stab at that question. Personally, I think AF is a must on oblivion but AA you can get away with. HDR with AF definately looks better than bloom with AA and AF, imo, but it causes too much decrease in system performance, so i choose to go with bloom and 8xAF and 2xAA. (rig in sig)

ATi. x1800xt would be the best bang for the buck in oblivion

EDIT: forgot your most likely on AGP, so you don't really have much options. If you want to play oblivion with HDR then your going to need an nvidia based agp card...however, the x1000 series do seem to do really well in oblivion and you can get HDR + AA
