Aww schucks, im all red :P :o

I tried the Seagate tool and the Hitachi feature, both without a whole lot of success.

The Seagate one didnt offer much in the way of tweaking, more just checking the drive.

The Hitachi one didnt pick up the Seagate drive, but found the Raptor and Maxtors.

I'll fiddle more this evening.

is there any vibrations emitting from it to the case or when you holf it?

The only minor vibrations appear when it seeks, the rest of the time you can certainly tell its on, but after installing them it seems to be slightly quieter overall (remember i have 5 Maxtors and a Raptor in there as well!)

The maxtors definetly (sp) create a rumble when held in your hand, the seagates are the same noise/vibration when they seek compare to an idle maxtor/raptor.

I would think these would be very much at home in an HTPC or other quiet case project. The size and performance has left my Raptor in questionable territory!

Let me know what you guys think!

thanks for that

some reviews say these drives are as lound as a raptor some say its quite so its hard to tell unless you one.

you seem to be pleased with them interms of performance and sound.

tried any games yet and when i mentioned the vibration i mean well like a tardis noise resigantes from your hd or case, a problem i have with these p120s 250gb samsungs.

I have installed BF2 on the new drive, whether its a new install or the drive is faster but there is less loading time than normal (might be that the old IDE was truely knackered?) and using FRAPS to record is seemless.

As I have mentioned before i have 7 hard drives in my pc, the stock AMD cooler, a 7800GTX and 9 fans ranging from 60mm - 120mm. This means my pc is far from quiet either idle or under load (usually compensate with the volume control :) )

I have noticed that vibrations have reduced as i usually rest my legs on the side of the pc, and can feel it is pretty steady :D

I have watched movies and listened to MP3's on the drive whilst the CPU is at 100% and there is no lag or stutter.

Sorry i cant be more ruthless in my reviewing but i dont have time to tear the pc apart! The benchmarks and general usage say it all for me, the performance is top notch and i dont really consider much else important.

I would note that they can produce a fair amount of heat under load but havent exceeded 47C yet (only lasted for 30 mins when formatting)

I really would like to hear what you think tho :)

thanks again for taking the time for this, well im defantly thinking about these drives since the samsungs p120s have let me down on performance and acoustics.

i was thinking about the wd3200ks from western digital and these 7200.10 just come out, i have always been a wd fan but these drives could be exaclty what i want, in terms of the plethora of features and performace and it would be even more better to get some accuracy on the sound and vibration it makes since the p120s tought me that.

my pc is one the quite end so i need it to be as quite as it can be without tampering with the drive or hardware its self.

you seem pretty happy with them but really to be honest from the maxtors to these its a jump but if you had a similar drives you would be more skyptical like i am.

if i do get em i will defabtly let you know how they are but your time and inout certainly helps, i just hope storage review do a review on them particular the 320gb as it has 160gb platter so thats 2 all together, should be quiter and faster than similar drives.

anyone cares to comment on these drives please do so?

thanks

Installed one myself yesterday (ie 320GB model) - I can give my rather unscientific opinion of it. I have to say I'm thrilled with it - much better load times than my old drive (Maxtor DiamondMax 9 120GB SATA). Sisoft Sandra drive benchmark reports a transfer rate of just under 60MB/s running in SATA 1 config (though I gather SATA II doesn't make much real world difference). The drive is very quiet - I can only hear it with the side off the case. Definitely recommended!

as mentioned previously, has anyone had the opportunity to compare this drive with the raptor?

i have just purchased this drive, and in the process of backing up my drive onto it, after it is finished i will compare it with my raptors. but my raptors are in raid 0 configuration.

so far, its not that loud at all, but is a bit hot, almost as hot as my raptors. :)

wanted to get two of these for my shuttle, but the anandtech review has worried me slightly about the heat output with low air flow ;(

hi humax

thanks for that as i was sure they do?

how would you rate this drive in terms of sound compare to other sata2 drives do you think?

thanks
